Why did Duna do that??????

    :( I don't know why Duna's behavior lately is so strange. She is now 6 month and this issue has never occured before!!
    Let me explain: she goes on my bed when she follows one of us upstairs to get dressed or do something else, so she jumps on the bed and lays down amd looks at you…or she might take a sock or soft toy from my lads bedroom and put it on the bed and play with it without destroying it. Then she'll follow you downstairs when youve finished. Twice, she has gone upstairs on her own and pooped on the bed!!!! A few days ago and this morning!!!
    Why this behavior now????:mad::eek::confused:

    maybe she got into puberty and wants to be the boss and makes it clear by pooping on your bed, as that is your "crate".
    just dont allow it or prevent it by not letting her in to your room again, I think it will blow over that way.

    If I call you names, please note that I am not suffering the Tourette syndrom.

    Gossy does something similar and she's already 1.5 years old – she can be fine while I go to work (9 hours) but if I then leave in the evening to go someplace she'll pee on the bed. I've taken to putting piddle pads on the bed covered by an old sheet (if she sees the piddle pads she just tears them up so the old sheet is necessary). I think it's just brat behavior.

    My guess is she is marking the bed because she REALLY enjoys spending time there, and wants to let everyone know that it is something she values. I am pretty sure there is no malicious intent there…she doesn't know how INCREDIBLY rude we humans find that ;) I agree, keep her out of the bedroom when no one can be with her for now. If you catch her make a HUGE deal about it..."Oh no...YUCK..."...etc...raised voice, disgusted voice...but not yelling at her (if you know what I mean)...we want her to know that it is NOT acceptable...but not scare her too much.

    I don't get other dogs in the yard but I do get foxes, she will sniff but isn't bothered.

    IMO it is a myth that Basenjis cannot have good manners on a walk. Yes, great if you can do off leash, but when circumstances dictate that a leash is necessary then walking calmly without a lot of drama and pulling should be achievable. Personally I do not like long lines or flex leashes. Or allowing dogs to eat whatever they find on the ground, which can in some cases earn you a trip to the vet or worse. Like most dogs, Basenjis are not overly discriminant about what they will ingest. A short leash and being observant can protect them from unwelcome outcomes. Mental exercise will also go a long way with any dog. But one should have a definite opinion about who is running the show, and it should not be the dog....they are quite willing to take up the position should you abdicate.

    Started peeing in the crate again

    Just thought I'd share an update on this. I removed the blankets from the crate and replaced them with a mattress. We have been strict about her only staying in the crate at night. When we have had accidents I have cleaned up, with a dog urine killing spray, and placed her back in the crate. Everything is progressing smoothly, not had any accidents for over a week now. So it's been a rather quick turnaround, lovely to have her properly crate trained again. Thank you all for sharing advice on the situation.

    Sounds like resource guarding. Food is one resource, you and hubby are another resource. Best I can come up with is you and hubby need to retake the resources and make sure each dog knows they do not own anything, that you and hubby allow them access out of the kindness of your hearts. Min-Pins are very Terrier in their attitudes toward other dogs and typically will not back down from anything, regardless of size. It's one of the endearments of the breed. However, now that Duna is passing puberty and becoming a full adult, she won't want to be bossed around any more. Neither should be allowed to boss the other. When a trigger for an altercation is presented, you choose for them where and when they will sit with you, eat, pick crumbs, etc. When you have to pick one of them up, make the other sit and wait. If she complies, reward appropriately. If the jumping starts, a very sharp, "NO!!!" Would suggest make them both sit first then pick one up. It will take repetition and practice, so you will have to do this a few times each day, with each dog. Other experts here may have more ideas.

    I was very interested on finding out that the horse harnesses are good for our basenjis expecially the ones with a bit of metal chain at the end, so as not to let our doggies chew through the lead, I took Duna out for a country walk and a seaside walk too off leash. She defenetly chooses who to hear when calling her to come…ME!!!!! She's a good girl till she meets other dogs, then becomes deaf!!! I tried runnig away and it workrd for the country walk, where as at the sea, what with the wind noise and wave noise, she just didnt turn to control me and took off for a distance with a big abandoned german sheperd mix!!! So i had to chase her because i new she was in trance and hipnotised by this big black dog that we were shooing to go away and that Duna was following!!! Little Stinker!!!!

    Don't you just love it when she wags her tail, it is so sweet to see that little curl wag ever so slightly..Otis does it to several people but not very many dogs..cute.
