Spot is our big black cat. He was my first pet when I moved out on my own. He is the only cat that we have that really enjoys the dogs. Last week he started to show less and less interest in food. Bloodwork came back normal this weekend which was good and bad news. Today an ultrasound showed that his chest is filled with fluid, his pancreas is inflammed, and he has some suspicious looking lymph nodes. We are now waiting for the vet to drain off as much fluid as possible from his chest so they can do x-rays to see if there are any masses in his chest.
Please keep Spot in your thoughts.

Please hang in there good things do come our way. My grandmother who is 91 and weight 75 lbs had her brest removed today with all cancer gone. My prayers are with you and Spot hope for good news.

They removed some of the fluid from his chest but couldn't get enough to do the x-ray. He is actually feeling more feisty today which made thoracocentesis more difficult. The fluid did not look good it had red blood cells and lots of some other cell the vet could not identify. She has sent it out for cytology but her gut feeling is that it is cancer. I am trying to remain positive but realistic. He came home with me for the night. He started antibiotics yesterday and he showed a little more interest in food today. We will see what the cytology report looks like tomorrow.

Ivoss do me a favor and please go look at the things I am going to list here they are for cancer. We had our one Akita on what they call Navys Protocol before it was FDA approved. I really beleive in my heart he would have made it had we found out just a little sooner.

Spot has adenocarcinoma. There is nothing that the vet can do for him but help us make him comfortable for his remaining time. We will probably have to help him cross over soon but for now he is enjoying his sunny place in the window.

I am so sorry to hear that. I understand "the nothing they can do part", but it is so hard to not try anything..I had a dog, Lou, that in late march was diagnosed with braintumors…we helped him over the bridge in mid april. Enjoy your time with Spot and when time comes he will thank you for the help...

Ivoss I am so very sorry. Did you get a chance to read the information I left on here and see what your vet said about it? It kept YOYO calm and not hurting that helped a lot for us. Again I am so very sorry.

So sorry to hear that… I know how hard it is.... enjoy your remaining time together... and then help him over the rainbow bridge to be with all that have gone before him... happy and painfree..... Hugs

Spot does not seem to be in any pain and spends most of the day sleeping in his favorite sunny place. Our vet says her measure of quality of life is that the they are spending at least 50% of their time doing the things they love. Right now he is doing that but I know that can change quickly so we will just treasure the time we have.
