Big Yellow Bus

Basenji Talk

  • From the first day we got zoe I took her to the bus stop with us where we would wait for my daughters school bus. We usually wait at the corner at a neighbors house until the buses come up the hill then the kids run to the actual bus stop and I would stay and talk to the other moms. Well zoey decided she would have none of that. At some point she decided we had to go with the kids so she could actually see them get on the bus. She pulls like a little demon and if Im too slow she starts to growl as she pulls. When we make it to the stop she is happy until the bus rolls to a stop then she gets on her hind legs and stands there till the last child is on the bus . The bus driver always asks her if she is coming which she would if I let go of the leash. As the door shuts she loses interest and is ready to go back and let me talk to the moms where she lays till I'm ready to take her on her walk. Then it starts all over again when its time to pick them up. The rush to the stop until the kids get off the bus. When I have a day off and we are outside she gets upset when I dont let her go to the kindergarden bus as well. Wonder if she will miss them over the summer

In the video, I do see a lot of basenji traits, but who know... some mixes look like nothing they are really related to. Some basenjis, espec mixes, can be quite large.

Cara was big at 16 weeks but I don't remember how big. If the ribs and backbone are slightly visible, weight is okay…too visible, too thin, cant' really see at all, getting up there. Builds are different, so the first and only evaluation is=== how does YOUR dog look. Cara is almost 5 and about 43 pounds, btw. She probably needs to lose a couple of pounds tops.

We have a small yard but our dogs don't seem to mind. They do race around inside the house, will play outside too but prefer to be where ever we are.

Yes, get her and your new boy into obedience and work to earn with treats, and getting up on the couch by you… it will help. Hugs

I use 1 inch collars by Bison, the 10-16" size works well for all my dogs. I went with the Bison collars because they are the only quick release buckle collar that has been rugged enough for my basenjis. Bison started out as a climbing company so their materials had to be rugged enough for climbers, that quality has also been present in the collars that I have gotten from them. For martingales and slip leads, I buy from All Hounds Apparel, http://www.allhoundsaparrel.com. She does several different widths. I like at least 1 inch for my dogs for any walking collar and prefer the widest I can get for coursing slip leads.
