    I just found out that my cousin is in the hospital recovering from microsurgery to repair the veins, arteries, and nerves that connect his pinky finger to his right hand. The surgeon is hopeful that he will not lose the finger but he will be hospitalized for the next 5 days so they can keep a close eye on it.

    How did my cousin end up in this situation? Well, he left the house in a hurry to take his wife to visit a relative that had suffered a heart attack. In their hurry the key ring they grabbed did not have the house keys. When they returned home quite late last night and found they had no keys my cousin attempted to break into the house through a window. The pane of glass slid out and struck his hand nearly severing the pinky finger.

    So please be careful around glass windows.

    Keep a spare key hidden outside somewhere for those instances when you lock yourself out. They make key holders that look like rocks.

    I cannot imagine committing to buy a puppy without seeing the animal and if possible the sire and dam. OTOH, a rescue (or adoption of an older dog) is a different thing. My last two Basenjis came to me sight unseen, and turned out to be wonderful dogs, but the breeders I got them from wanted to place their dogs in an experienced Basenji home, and I only paid the cost of getting the dogs to me. One came by air, one was personally transported to me by his breeder. If she hadn't been happy with what she found I expect she would have taken him back with her when she left. I also had to commit to return him if ever I couldn't keep him. Good breeders care about where their dogs end up.

    @kembe - Very True Kembe, here is a link on looking for a responsible breeder. https://bconc.org/finding-breeders-red-flags There are many scammers out there, don't fall for one.. or a person that is not a responsible breeder.

    @sanjibasenji Thanks for the article on Dog Genome Project - I found it very interesting. I was trying to figure out the interactive Genome wheel. It has the basenji closely related to the Azawakh and rat terrier but I’m still trying to figure out the first wheel which has the basenji listed w/ black/grey starting point. As far as the PBS Dog Tales video - it’s very interesting - it’s season 47 episode 2 - I highly recommend you watch the whole thing (54 minutes).

    @Kembe, nice post! We've gone to solid food chopped up in a food processor, but we're grinding it a bit more course as we go. So far, no puppies are choking, but good to know!
