I would guess that Ch Gala All American, Ch Akuaba's Tornado and Changa's Trialot for Gale are fairly far back in the pedigree? Also Ch Akuaba's Tornado was Fanconi Affected and produced Fanconi Affected offspring.. so have the Sire and Dam of the pup that you are considering been tested? Also Ch Gala All American had PRA (blindness) that is a genetic affliction… and I know this because I had a daughter of his.. and one of her littermates did go blind.

For pedigree and sometimes pictures you can check out

  • well sound like I probably don't want this pup then ha?
Gala All-American is a great, great, great, great grandpa
Akuaba's Tornado is great, great, great, great. great grandpa

Mom is fanconi clear, dad is between clear/carrier

Well at least for Fanconi… the pup would maybe be Clear or Carrier... so that is not such a bad thing depending on what you are looking for.... for a pet.. no chance of Fanconi for the pup... even is Carrier.. however.. if you are thinking show/breeding then the pup could only be bred to a Clear depending on the pups DNA Fanconi test....

Between Clear/Carrier has to be at this time considered a Carrier

Have other health testing been done? Hips, Elbows, Thyroid, Eye exams?....

Not necessarily. You need to ask the breeder (is it Eric?) if the parents and recent relatives have had CERF eye exams done as adults. Lots of those older dogs are behind lots of present dogs that don't have any eye issues. But you need to know what the current status of the relatives' eye exams are.

  • I hope that you verified for yourself using the OFA website the results for Fanconi and made sure that the sire and dam were tested for hip dysplasia and had CERF exams and that there are CERF exams on the grandparents since PRA is late onset.

As for pictures, here is a website with Gala pictures

    http://www.chgala.com/index.html

There is a picture of Nate, Akuaba's Tornado in this picture pedigree

    http://www.suntribe.se/stamtavlakull4eng.html

In searching for these dogs on the web I hit on this website, http://www.freewebs.com/alaskanbasenjis/litters.htm

Is this where you are considering getting your puppy from?

  • If it is that breeder that you are considering then it is the dam Dune's Pleistocene Hera that is IND and the sire Moonlight N Amber's Crash Bandicoot that is Probably Clear. Neither parent has any other health testing. The sire is only just a year old.

  • yes, those are them

    Eric does not health test

  • @brianpoppee:

    Eric does not health test

If they are not health testing then you really want to go to a breeder that does…

  • and you would recommend?

  • I've had a hard time finding a champion bred
there is one breeder in Ok who will almost give me a pup
but they are not AKC and who knows whats behind them

  • so you don't like the history behind this litter

  • I am sure Tanza is typing a post, give her a minute!

Are you looking for a puppy or would you also go with a young adult?

  • do you know James Ormiston?
    He's in NY

  • I'd even be happy just helping someone show their dog.
but am considering and looking into getting my own.
    any age (even a special)

  • I went through alot of these already but no one will even talk to me
    not helpful at all

    so I started searching elsewhere

  • I would prefer to lease or buy outright.
almost ready to just quit my search - too confusing and too hard to find an honest friendly breeder with a great pedigree.
Thought I found one but I guess maybe not?
I guess I know why the price was fair and terms were too.

  • They are your best bet for a well socialized, healthy show quality basenji.
What did you tell them you're looking for?

As long as the cat keeps well out of the dog's way ! Most learn to do that pretty soon after the Basenji arrives - I have seen a Basenji shaking a cat, much like you would a feather duster.

@lindy said in Fostering a pup that looks like Basenji: [image: 1499893567189-img_2774.jpg] His height is 20". That's too big, right? Yes, too big. Should be 16 - 17" at the shoulder. Possibly a mix, but only a DNA test will tell you for sure.

LOL agile, Sayblee did yodel for me but much more for the spousal unit. Arwen doesn't do it at all and at 8 not likely to happen. Cara has had one almost yodel. :( She does musical yawns a lot though, and barks. Well more like boofs.

I got a 15 week old puppy when my female was 8 and my male was 5. Both were happy to have a puppy around. They all spent hours chasing each other and the squirrels in the back yard around. Fortunately my puppy didn't pick up my female's habit of digging up the back yard.

Check for Diabetes. Excess thirst can be a sign for other aliments. Get him to the vet for blood tests.
