Question about getting results

Basenji Health Issues & Questions
  • I have sent Booger & Lola's cheek swabs in… I ordered the tests on November 20th, & I sent them back the day after I received them, so I think the lab probably got the samples the last week in November. Based on another thread I read here about Kiora's results, I'm expecting results in 2 weeks maybe. I'm a bit unclear about checking the results online, though... Will the results be posted on the OFA site or the CPP site or both?
I'm just really anxious. I've been checking both sites daily.

Results are not post on the CPP site and only uploaded about every month or two on the OFA site. You should receive an email directly to you with the results. Remember we are in the holiday season, so test results are bound to be running late/slow. You can always call or email Liz at UofMo (information for contacting her is on the forms).

Oh thanks for clearing this up. Now I can stop worrying about checking the site. I somehow missed that they send an e-mail.

This is worse than waiting for water to boil, that's for sure.

I hear you… been there, done that.... and don't be afraid to call Liz.... can't hurt... every once in a while I have heard that the results were on the OFA site and no email was received (but could have been in spam mail).....

Fingers crossed for you that all is OK...

  • With Nemo, the blood sample was received around 9/10, I got the email results on 10/14 and the hardcopy results around 11/20. The OFA site results appeared sometime after that. I hope you don't have to wait that long, I know it is stressful.

I would recommend calling rather than emailing Liz if you have questions. It seems like they are pretty swamped and it takes some time to update things.

  • Thanks to you both! I'm thinking I might get results for Christmas this year, for better or worse.

  • when we did sent our samples in August, the machine for the bloodworks had a problem and was down a few days. I can tell you, that I was sitting here like on hot charcoals. But after I have called Liz and she told me about the problems with the machine, waiting was a bit more easy. We received a eMail with the results only a few days later and after one or two weeks later we received the Certificate with the results by regular mail.

    Regards,
    Esther

  • As long as his CPP registration got entered before they received the blood sample, you'll hear eventually. If there was a delay in the registration, the blood results won't be posted and you'll have to call Liz.

@Basenjimamma: Ok, I got it. So basically the only way (as far as we know with the test available today) to get affecteds is if the "breeder" either don't test prior to breeding or breed affecteds and carriers together, and not using a clear in the mix. Right, Affecteds and Carriers and IND (between a Clear and a Carrier, so should be considered a Carrier) should only be bred to Clears, period With the very, very few inconsistant results excluded, looking at the test results, what we are seeing is what we would expect to see, especially in looking at tested sires and dams and then their offspring.

Oh, I am sorry about the loss of your b to cars. Sadly, when they get out, the are often not car smart. Hugs.

I got worried giving kiro so many bones, so i would take lots of old shoe laces and tie them in her crate on the side.ONe big sting with tons of THICK knots and let her pull it off and that kept her busy. You just have to make sure they wont swallow it. (she didnt) and make the knots big and thick. she loved the challenge of getting them off the side of her crate. it helps if your worried about to many bones…..

My first thought was "Great! None of her dogs will develop Fanconi." But as a non-breeder I forget that the carrier status complicates your life when it comes to making breeding decisions. Good luck and I really applaud all of you breeders who care because we all know that there are those who don't care and therefore refuse to find out Pat.
