• I would like to introduce myself, Jenni, to this fantastic forum I just found today. I have been involved in Australian Cattle Dogs since 1989, and my hubby, Richard, and I have just decided to give them away….....(so many genetic problems, but this isnt the place to go into that;) ). We purchased our first B nearly 14 months ago, after much research... That is Saba. (Incidently we have just got Saba's Fanconi results, and if I may brag, he is probably clear/normal, and Im on Cloud 9:D ). Just recently we have our second who is nearly 12 weeks old, with her first show this weekend:eek: . Her name is Ochre. Boy oh boy have we been introduced to such a stubborn, pigheaded, obstinate, independant, fabulous, elegant and very beautiful breed....... In a short 14 months I have learnt so much, some great, some not so great, (!!) about this breed, that I will never go without one in our home again;) . They are like potato chips, you just cant stop at one !!!!!!!!!!

That is super… about the Fanconi test. Who is your pups breeders? There are a number of Aussie imports here in the states... I have a litter by an Aussie import as does another forum member. Can't wait to see pictures...

  • Hi from France! You are all getting me worried about this Fanconi test, had never heard of it before I joined the forum and none of the vets I have seen have mentionned it. We won't get into that here, welcome and enjoy all the chats on this great and very very useful forum.

  • Welcome and congratulations about the test results.

You can learn about the test at www.basenjihealth.org and it would be a good thing to pass on to your Vet.

Did you ever contact the person in France that I sent you her name and email information? She has done the DNA test for Fanconi on her dogs…..

Vet in France are really clueless about fanconi, hypothyroid, PRA or IPSID, most basenji disease related. They don't understand we want to test when they is nothing wrong with them.

If you are close to Germany I know some breeders are sometimes organising blood draw and shipping, could be of some interest for you (contact me through the french forum)

  • Hi Everyone,

Thanks for your very warm welcome. I really appreciate it.

My Vet had heard of Fanconi, but didnt know much about it. I researched this disease and sent them so much information, that I think she is very knowledgeable about it now!!! I also sent her all the paperwork (from the wonderful lady in Adelaide who organised the sending of the blood, via our breed club in Sydney), so that when it came time to collect and send the blood, we were both fully understanding of what had to be done. It sure has been worth it. I will need to test Ochre, and thankfully we will have another blood collection later this year. I am currently trying to understand all the ins and out of Thyroid disease also, so as I can have both mine tested later as well…. Hips and elbows will also be done later in the year...... Lots of money, but in my humble eyes, so necessary for the betterment of the breed. Ok, Im off my high horse now !!!

Hi chilli07, nice to see a fellow Aussie on this forum... Do you have any B's, if so....please do tell !!!

Hi tanza, my two B's were bred by Kylie Delacourt, from Wazazi kennels in Sydney, and I couldnt be happier with her help, guidance, knowledge etc, etc, that she has given me and continues to give also. Im sure I have absolutely driven her MAD with my questions, emails and need for knowledge. She has been wonderful..... Im very curious about your Aussie dog that you used, if thats not being too bold ???

Im not very computer savvy, so I will need to post some pics when my hubby shows me, (again !!!), how to do it, sorry............ Probably in the next couple of days.

Im so looking forward to perusing this site, so much B info, stories, brags, health etc, all related to my beloved breed. I still cant understand how quickly these little devils have wormed themselves into my heart..........

    saba.

  • The Male that I used is a Tamsala Basenji, Jan Roberts is the breeder. And I know Kylie, she is a great person and a very good Basenji breeder. I almost imported a puppy from her in 2006, but at the last minute had to change my mind.

My B girl, Ruby (Ch Eldorado n Akuaba's Bejeweled), has a Wazazi line in her…her father(Am/Can Ch Terrarust N Beaubri Makersmark) is out of Wazazi's Grand Crusader. Maybe she's related to your 2 B's?

  • I LOVE Cattle Dogs!!!

I have a 2 year old basenji and I would LOVE to eventually add a ACD brother for him!

  • Hello and welcome to the forum! 🙂

  • Hi All,

    Tanza,

I couldnt be happier with all the help Kylie has given me over the last 18 months or so. Nothing has been too much trouble, pics, documentation, health results etc, etc, the list goes on and on. I just hope I can do her proud with my 2…I have yet to meet Jan Roberts, hopefully at the next Specialty we go to, in Feb next yr. I do enjoy her website, and its interesting to see the influence of the American lines, on her Aussie dogs. Im watching very closely!!!

    renaultf1,

I have admired W Grand Crusader, very much. From the top of my head, I think mine are possibly distantly related only...He seems to have consistantly produced lovely offspring, in my very novice eyes only though !!!!!

    AndrewnShango,

ACD's are a fabulous breed, in the right hands... If you do decide to buy your boy a "brother", please do your research well, particularly in respect to genetic testing....I will say no more....

    Janneke,

Thanks for the welcome, I am thoroughly enjoying it, but my family isnt, they havent seen me for days !!!!!

    saba

  • hi saba, yes have one and only b' Chilli…

don't know much about the blood testing and stuff but be keen to know.

And interesting note, the girl I am breeding this year, her call name is Kylie!
