Missing You Always Capt. Jack

  • OMG I'm sooo sorry to hear that :( Prayers to u and ur Family !!!!

  • Thank you all for your prayers! I cannot go into all the details, but unfortunatly Jack bit the neighbor & a Police Officer and since he has a bite record We got a warning of Eviction from the Navy Housing so we had no choice but to try and find him a new home (as our house now has TONS of children in our yard bc we are next to a playground now) BRAT was the first I called and they told me that since he has a bite record they cannot take him and their advice was to have him put down. No vet would put him down (trust me that was my LAST resort) and the Vets said I should give him to the pound…The Pound wouldnt take him either bc of the bite record and said if I tried to sell him Id get sued if he bit the next owner...I contacted the Animal control who delt with his Quarinteen and know Jack well and they offered to take him and think about finding a foster home but under a deadline...Needless to say, because of Liability, there was no other option. To make matters worse, the vet that took Jack said he had cancer that showed up in his xrays...and told me that the pain from that could have been the cause of Jacks biting...We decided after MUCH thought that the best thing to do would be to put him down...i feel like I failed Jack and its all my fault...I should have found the cancer faster...maybe i could have done somthing...

  • I'm so terribly sorry for your loss. Please don't blame yourself, you didn't know and it does no one any good…believe me, I've been there. You gave him a good life the time he was here and he was loved. Hold him in your heart and know he's now running free....

  • I am so very sorry to hear about Jack.. hugs… but know that he is safe now and not in pain... He is with all the others that have gone before him.. and will show him the way...

  • I'm so, so sorry. I think everyone here knows you'd have done what you could for Jack. He was in pain and he's not now. He's happy and looking out for you. I know he tried to be a good dog. And when you're ready he'll send you the right dog.

What a great statement… "When you're ready he'll send you the right dog"... that is so very true.....

  • May Jack rest in peace. You did all you could. Cancer can manifest itself in many forms and many behaviors. He loved you so pure he protected you at all costs.

I will miss hearing of Jack here. His, and your, trials and tribulations will forever be here, in the written word and in my heart as well.

Thank you for touching me so deeply and reawakening the compassion of love, and loss. Dawn

  • I am so sorry for your loss. I know how you loved him and worked with him after Aiden was born. Whatever has happened, know that you have lots of love and sympathy from may of us. Losing a young one is truly heartbreaking.

  • Again - my sincere sympathies. I'm glad that Aiden is OK. I feared Jackers was aggressive with your baby. With deep sorrow, I feel for your sudden loss and decision. You did what was best for Jack. He was a beautiful boy who will live on in your heart and soul through fond memories.

  • Really sorry for you and your familly for the loss of Jack!

  • So sorry for your loss! You are in my thoughts.

  • i woke up thinking about little jackers and all the joy and pure love he shared with the world…and how you shared it with the forum...may his memory be a blessing.

  • Oh man sometimes it's tough to come back to the forums after my weekends. Love and hugz to your family as you begin your healing process. Jack will be missed. Be as happy as you can that he is in a place now where he doesn't have to hurt, and can be at peace. May your family heal quickly from this loss of a dear beloved member.

  • Oh my….I've been on vacation and away from a computer for a week. What a shock to come back to. I am so very sorry. I've been visiting this forum for a year...first as a silent observer before we got Cory and Jayden...and then out in the open. There are so many dogs here that I feel like I know as if they lived next door. Jack was definitely one of those. This news brought tears to my eyes and I am so very sorry for you. A big big hug from Georgia.

  • My heart is breaking just reading your post. I'm so sorry for your lose.

  • We have followed your progress with Jack through new baby adjustments to your horrid neighbors. My heart aches for your loss, but my heart completely sank when you tried to take on the blame.
It is obvious through all of your previous posts that you went above & beyond what any average human being would to give this dog a wonderful life in this world. And all I can think is God must have had a hand in this… perhaps putting him to rest now prevented a slow, painful end. You had him during his best years, and he helped welcome your baby into this world. He gave you everything he could, and in return you had the heart to recognize his pain and the courage to help prevent prolonging it. You are clearly a wonderful person, and you did everything you could for him. Our prayers are with you.

  • Thank You all very Much!

My brother in law gave me a plaque that says: "It came to me that every time I lose a dog they take a piece of my heart with them, and every new dog who comes into my life gifts me with a piece of their heart. If I live long enough all the components of my heart will be dog, and I will become as generous and loving as they are." I am sorry for your loss.

I am SO sorry to hear of the passing of your Sweet Cosmo. I know the hole she leaves in your heart, but she left knowing that she was loved as much as she could be loved and I am sure she loved you the same! I feel confident that we will be reunited with our dear Basenjis one day. Sending love and prayers for both of you.
  • I know i miss her, but will our little girl even notice?

I'm so sorry for your loss. Your Cleo reminds me so much of our Lab/B cross, Kia. At 13, she's starting to get stiff and impatient with her two Basenji brothers, but she's also been a kind and patient "nanny dog" to a number of lost-soul male Basenji fosters. To suggest an answer to your question, same sex dogs don't always bond as well as opposite genders. Kia and my first B, Sam I Am, never got along–both females, so not surprising. And most of my male foster/forever Basenjis have worshiped the two females--but only tolerated each other. But don't be surprised if Bassit starts displaying Cleo's mannerisms or behaviours if you ever adopt a little brother for her. When my Sam I Am passed away, very uncharacteristically Ben took up her duties as "Little Mother" to the next foster, surrendering his food bowl, cleaning and hovering like a mother hen-- with the same devotion that Sam had lavished on him.

I am so sorry for your loss. I know how badly that can hurt. I have to concentrate on my current furbaby to keep from bawling over the one I lost last november. Good luck to you.
