    on Monday I have FedExed my Basenji's bloodsamples from Kolding in Denmark to the Universitiy of Missouri in the US. First of all it was horrible expensive to ship them, then the parcel was sitting for a whole day in Paris (France) and now is in Memphis, Tennesse for delivery. AND the Trackingwebsite is not updated. It was supposed to be delivered today at 10.30 and obviously it is already later. I wonder if the bloodsamples will arrive there in a "proper" condition….

    Worried but not hopeless

    so, I just called the FedEx Customer Service Hotline and they told me, that the parcel is supposed to be delivered today (!). It was sheduled for delivery yesterday, but the people working there, had problems in sorting out the packages. What the heck….

    Getting nervous about the conditions of the blood samples now....

    I just received the Tracking Info that the parcel has been delivered. Well, I hope that everything is ok with the blood samples. I am waiting now to hear from Liz H. about the samples, if everything is alright with them…

    Liz wrote to me and told me, that the samples are in "almost perfect" condition. And that they can use them for the DNA extraction…..

    @JENGOSMonkey I WAS THERE FOR '89! I was a kid, but I remember the water coming out of the swimming pool in huge waves and everything falling from the shelves! I was actually born in San Jose, but moved around a lot later LOL I hear the wildfires are more of a concern for you guys now? That's scarier than quakes for me...

    I cannot imagine committing to buy a puppy without seeing the animal and if possible the sire and dam. OTOH, a rescue (or adoption of an older dog) is a different thing. My last two Basenjis came to me sight unseen, and turned out to be wonderful dogs, but the breeders I got them from wanted to place their dogs in an experienced Basenji home, and I only paid the cost of getting the dogs to me. One came by air, one was personally transported to me by his breeder. If she hadn't been happy with what she found I expect she would have taken him back with her when she left. I also had to commit to return him if ever I couldn't keep him. Good breeders care about where their dogs end up.

    @kembe - Very True Kembe, here is a link on looking for a responsible breeder. https://bconc.org/finding-breeders-red-flags There are many scammers out there, don't fall for one.. or a person that is not a responsible breeder.

    @sanjibasenji Thanks for the article on Dog Genome Project - I found it very interesting. I was trying to figure out the interactive Genome wheel. It has the basenji closely related to the Azawakh and rat terrier but I’m still trying to figure out the first wheel which has the basenji listed w/ black/grey starting point. As far as the PBS Dog Tales video - it’s very interesting - it’s season 47 episode 2 - I highly recommend you watch the whole thing (54 minutes).

    @Kembe, nice post! We've gone to solid food chopped up in a food processor, but we're grinding it a bit more course as we go. So far, no puppies are choking, but good to know!
