Storm Damage

  • We had a tree come down and hit our fence in the latest round of storms that came through. Nexa and Leo helped with some of the cleanup:D

    Investigating the roots:

    Leo must have found something:

Looking through an opening where a board came off the fence:

I just had to post this picture:

  • I love that last one :D :D :D

Do you have any problems with the dogs scraping themselves on the wood slats? I had to put a couple of wood panels up in the corner … the neighbors's little pretend dog would come to the corner and irritate EL D (and me) to no end -- the wood panels cut their view but I worry about EL D trying to jump up against them.

  • Those are too funny! I love the second one, where you can only see his rear end coming out of the hole he has dug…

  • Great pictures! I especially like the last one. When they discovered that they had something new to explore, it must have been like Christmas to them!

BTW, Cory discovered a loose board on our fence and removed it. The neighbor found her checking out her deck and called us. (Thank goodness!) Our fence is shadow box style. Sometimes the dogs get minor scrapes on their legs but it is because they try to reach between the boards to touch/pet our neighbor's cat…....it fascinates them.

I hope that was all the damage that you had!

    Pat

  • They seem like quite the pair! :)

I am not in your area, but ... you should know that dog training is about teaching you how to interact with your dog, as opposed to teaching your dog how to do things. Most area Kennel Clubs offer training where you are your dogs partner in the class. The things you will learn will last your lifetime. I applaud the non-punitive approach. A lot of people fly off the handle when their dog chews on the wrong thing, or doesn't quite have potty training down. One of the best things you can do is give them love when they do it right and don't react when they don't. Recognize that he's just a pup. You can trade an acceptable chew toy for your shoes, and you can avoid the problem by closing the closet door so your pup can't get to your shoes. Accidents will happen and learning to potty doesn't happen overnight. Just provide a lot of verbal love when the pup gets it right and don't react when he doesn't. Love and praise are the best tools in your training bag. Congrats on your pup. Can't wait to hear about all of your adventures!

@salemsockmonkey said in Red Storm: @donc We named him Storm because he would tear through the house like a tornado! ❤️😩. I understood the origins. Most definitely! LOL

I can see that, to an extent. Cody and Moe, our mix, are inconsolable during thunderstorms. Thunder and lightning scare the crap out of them (sometimes literally), but the wind was around 80+ mph sustained and gusting to almost 100 mph at times, and there were a few tornadoes that touched down not too far from us (thankfully we were not in their paths). Our house shook with the gusts, but the boys were together cuddled up next to me or someone else the whole time. Maybe some dogs are more sensitive than others, or maybe they are sensitive to different things. Moe will pace, shake, and attempt to sit in our laps almost an hour before a thunderstorm comes, during it, and afterwards. Cody will pace and grunt but wants to be left alone during thunderstorms. There wasn't any thunder with this storm, though.
