  • Black ears usually indicates prolonged exposure to cold weather. :( sad.

  • Oh…yes sad. Thank you

  • Here's a pic of Miles's ears the day we rescued him. Poor little ham. :(

And after I tried cleaning them with mild soap and water…

    A couple months later…Getting better!!

And here's after almost a year…the ears healed with neosporin. :)

    Now THAT'S a happy Ham!! :)

  • You might actually have an argument that the ex abandoned Maggie. She was left at her mother's house, where the mother said the ex never was. The mother was going to take her to the pound, another sign that she was not under the control and care of the ex. Also, Maggie was obviously neglected, adding to the argument that the ex abandoned her. There is no way that I would give her back. Make sure you document all of the veterinary care that you are providing. Whose name is Maggie registered in?

  • i actually dont think she IS registered. she was just a pet store puppy. the man who bought her just gave her to the pet store because she kept peeing in the house ( umm.. DUH she's a puppy for crying out loud ) but because they had no documents or anything on her, she was given away, not even sold. Dan switched her over to his name the day after we got her at the vets office, and his ex owes the vet $700 so the vet wouldn't even let maggie come in with the ex. idk if that counts for anything.

  • Wow, the pet store took a dog just because someone gave it too them?
I am no lawyer, but if the pup is stolen and I am not saying she is the pet shop can be libal for a lawsuit.
Course, any store that sells companion animals should be shut down, imo.

  • well thats the impression i got from the story. i could be wrong.

  • I know it's been awhile but i thought a little update on maggie might be nice :) shes now up to date on all of her shots, her fecal floatation was negative and they tested for 4 different tick born diseases and she was negative for all of them. She weighed a little over 20 pounds 2 weeks ago at the vet's office. He looked back in his notes and found that a year ago she was only 13 pounds and last january she was only 15 (we got her in may) A three year old basenji should NOT weigh only 13 pounds. she is very small in stature, but still.. 13 pounds is ridiculous.. it made me SICK. but shes lost the nasty nappy fur she had and is so soft now and her ears are back to normal :) she's still having accidents occasionally and yesterday she ate a hole in the couch. >:O but she is doing awesome.. ill post some newer pics later

  • if you notice the back leg thats stretched out, thats the ankle that was broken. you can see its a lot larger than normal.

  • She looks super and you have done a great job with her….. love these happy endings!!!!! Way to go and Kudos!!!

  • Pat is right…YOU DONE GOOD!

  • Great to hear she is doing so well! She looks so happy being with you :)

  • Great to hear – hope all continues well.

  • She looks so wonderful! Glad to hear that she's doing so well in her new home :)

  • Yay for Happy Endings!!! I'm so happy for you all!

  • Saving one basenji at a time. :)

  • She's sooo cute. How could someone leave her outside???
I think in the long run arrangements must be made when two people share a dog. To think of the horrible outcome of this precious pup is heartbreaking. I'm glad your ex was willing to give her up for the good of her. Thank goodness. So many ex's are just angry at the breakup and not thinking of the welfare of the dog. She's precious and should stay that way. :)

  • Sadly, pets are often the target of anger when people split up.
Glad this b had a safe landing.

  • well it wasn't my ex it was my boyfriends.. but dan loved maggie so much and he has told me he stayed with her for like an extra 4 months because he knew she'd take her.. thank god she got off her high horse and realized she was a horrible owner and came to dan about it and let him take her back.. too bad it was 15 months after they broke up and 15 months of maggie being treated like crap…

me and dan already know that if something happened he'd keep rocky and maggie (obviously..he had them before i was around) and i'd take Mia, even though we both paid for her equally..im the one she was sold to and im on the registration form..

  • You guys are so lucky. I'm really glad you have her back. I really hope she stays permanently with you. She sure is beautiful but girlfriend needs a manicure. LOL! Cute nonetheless!

I looked up the dates for LGRA in August in Oberlin and I will on vacation that week in NC. I would like to meet up with you for a play date one weekend. Cody gets his staples out on Tues. (yeah) So after that I would be free most weekends until Aug 20. If you have suggestions on dog parks to go to let me know.

    NexaN
Nexa is full af. and she is very cautious in new situations. She is curious and wants to say hi to every dog or person we see, but if they approach her she will back away. The introductions have to go at her pace. We were on a walk the other day and she was desperate to investigate a cat laying in someone’s driveway. She just stood there staring at the cat from 5-6 feet away, as soon the cat came towards her she tucked her tail and ran like it was a lion after her. The cat might have weighed 8 pounds wet. She is wary, but with her curiosity she just can’t let things go.
