  • for me to come clean here ;) It has been mentioned in a few other places in basenjisdom..and I want to make sure nobody feels left out ;) (just kidding)

So, we are having our own little litter in July, no, not canine, but human! We will be adding two new baby boys to our family. This is NOT at all what was in our plans…but you know how things go...just when you think you have everything figured out, G-d changes your plans :)

Anyhow, just wanted to share :)

  • Congratulations! I hope your pregnancy is going well :-)

  • Congratulations!

  • Congratulations!!!!!!

  • WOW, twins…. congrats......

  • Thanks you guys :) It has taken a while to get adjusted to the idea. We were on the fence about the possibility of one more…and we will get a two for one deal!

I was REALLY sick during that first trimester, but now just tire easily. No showing dogs for me this summer; even though with my pregnancy with Ethan I showed Bella up until about a month before I delivered.

So, yeah, things are going to change at our house...mainly in the sleep area, though I don't sleep that well now, anyway. Our plans for our breeding program will be put on hold for a while; and we will probably be placing some of our younger dogs, so that they can have the attention they deserve.

Thanks for your kind words :)

    Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Congrats!

My girlfriend and I were having a conversation via chat this morning and children came up with regard to the dogs we have. Tucker bites and her dog snaps at everything. We decided that we are going to get one of those indoor-outdoor playyards/pens for dogs. However, we'll use it to keep the kids in and the dogs out! ;)

  • A summer litter - how nice! Did you ever think though how much easier puppies are than little people?

  • Congratulations Andrea! Have you thought of any names yet?

  • congratulations Andrea!! Boy, I miss babies..

  • Oh Wow - Contratulations Andrea! And little Ethan will get to be the BIG brother! (and 2 for 1 - lucky you) :)

  • Congratulations! That is so exciting. Can't wait to see the pictures.

    Pat

  • congrats!!

I cannot imagine committing to buy a puppy without seeing the animal and if possible the sire and dam. OTOH, a rescue (or adoption of an older dog) is a different thing. My last two Basenjis came to me sight unseen, and turned out to be wonderful dogs, but the breeders I got them from wanted to place their dogs in an experienced Basenji home, and I only paid the cost of getting the dogs to me. One came by air, one was personally transported to me by his breeder. If she hadn't been happy with what she found I expect she would have taken him back with her when she left. I also had to commit to return him if ever I couldn't keep him. Good breeders care about where their dogs end up.

@kembe - Very True Kembe, here is a link on looking for a responsible breeder. https://bconc.org/finding-breeders-red-flags There are many scammers out there, don't fall for one.. or a person that is not a responsible breeder.

@sanjibasenji Thanks for the article on Dog Genome Project - I found it very interesting. I was trying to figure out the interactive Genome wheel. It has the basenji closely related to the Azawakh and rat terrier but I’m still trying to figure out the first wheel which has the basenji listed w/ black/grey starting point. As far as the PBS Dog Tales video - it’s very interesting - it’s season 47 episode 2 - I highly recommend you watch the whole thing (54 minutes).

She is hear as so basenji like in her play - I've only introduced her to 1 of my males and they are getting along fine. I however have a nasty cold so I'm mostly sleeping and she is having to be in a pen unless I can watch her. She also has the beginnings of a UTI so she is piddling everywhere - which has not been fun so her movement in my house is a bit restricted until we get a handle on it.
