Marks On Jack???

  • Found a couple marks on Jack this morning. Hes been licking them so we put on some Genesis Topical Spray (Triamcinolone Aceronide) ((for hot spots i got it from the vet) and the caged muzzle so he doesnt lick it. But i was wondering what it could be because its not a normal hot spot for sure!!

This is the one that DOESNT look like a hot spot

This is a HUGE hot spot on his belly. Never seen one on him this big before

  • Our dog gets a similar reaction on his groin with his food allergies-

He's allergic to wheat, beef, turkey & grains.

Has he been eating something out of the norm?

  • My boy gets this about this time of year, we use benadryl pills and this makes him not ich, so he stops licking.
    Good luck.

  • Also very possible it is a yeast infection.. pretty common… but would require a Vet visit for meds. Also to stop him from licking it you can use Tea Tree Oil around the site... and also it is a good topical medication

  • Thanks!! let you all know!

@Saving Thanks so much for the information! I am researching further and continuing with her rehab exercises as best I can. Glad you recovered from your spinal injuries.

@Rebel - Full blood workup including full Thyroid panel (full panel no just what the normal vet workup that is not a full thyroid panel)... as they say make sure that he is in good health. Also what are you feeding him? How much total are you feeding a day? Also with reducing food, add veggies to his food to fill his belly... green beans are good to use... I use Cauliflower and Broccoli... Note also that low normal is typically too low for Basenjis.

@serenjane My Kembe had the freckles on her neck - more pronounced in summer months w/ the sun and also as she aged. I use to call her my little 🦒 giraffe. 😂

@mryltis Read this comment from @morgansc within this post dated May 30, 2019, 7:49 AM. It answers your question. Ideally it is best to wait until age 24 months but no early than 18 months. https://basenjiforums.com/post/177284

I've never heard of using tea tree oil before. I'll have to give that a try too. With Max, I had to put him in his e collar when I used sprays or creams. With Zoey and Tyler–they don't seem to lick at creams (or sprays once they've dried). An old vet of mine used to put something bitter in sprays to keep dogs from licking after you sprayed--it seemed to work pretty well with Max. He'd take one sniff and wrinkle up his nose.
