Yeah Trixie!!!

Basenji Talk
  • Well it was amazing. We have made the transition into the bigger crate with Trixie, and last night my little sweetheart slept in the crate all night with no encouragement from us. We were both shocked!!! She layed down to chew on a raw hide and slept all night all curled up!! She is still shredding her blankets in the crate but it almost looks like she is making a nest for herself,so I guess we can live with the shredding!! Plus my back did not hurt this morning from not having to contort myself all night to allow her highness to sleep with me!!! LOVE HER TO DEATH!!!!

  • Hooray Trixie! …and lucky, lucky you!

  • This is huge for her!! Congrats :D

Well isn't she a sassy little thing? Thanks so much for the information. I had not heard of this one at all. I will Google it to get more info and find where to purchase! Deb

I can't listen to that, it would wake my girl up and well... I'm not into a "sing along" just now. ;) I will say that many canines howl and yodel and bay (at the moon, whenever a fire truck passes, etc.). I'm not certain that any one breed is distinctive enough to have a sound all their own, but many a proud owner would probably assert so.

We use ones from Rukka. Not sure if they’re available everywhere but they are they best ones we have tried (others always fell off, especially in deep snow). I think having two Velcro closures on each sock has been key. I also prefer the soft shell ones as our B seems to accept them more and they don’t twist as much as the ones with a hard sole. Here are the ones I am referring to: https://rukkapets.com/paw-wear/thermal-shoes-black

My undergraduate degree was in geophysics with a minor in applied math. I name all my Basenjis after Indian mathematicians. My current Basenjis are Madhava of Sangamagrama (Madhava for short) and Bramagupta (Bramagupta for short). They do respond to their "short" names.

@basenjibratz: It's wonderful seeing a basenji run. They are usually the smallest in the big dog parks but they sure can keep up. When I use to take Talker to a make shift dog park (four enclosed baseball fields) he would run with a border collie. The border collie would always be chasing Talker and the humans were always amazed at his speed and how he was never panting while the border collie would be panting up a storm. It was wonderful to see him stretched out in a full run. Trixie's Daddy should be proud at his girl and so should you. :) Yes I have had several people comment that after a full run Trixie is looking at the other dogs like "why are you panting?" They have often asked me if she ever seems to get tired, my reply is always yes but it takes a while! They are beautiful to watch run! Everytime I watch her it amazes me!
