**Showing is expensive but I LOVE IT, every second of it!
Some people spend money on golfing, some spend money on dog shows!
I have to agree, most dog people are GREAT!
Met a lot of great people, great friends thru the years of showing. Not to mention when you trying to get up to the Top 20, Top 10 level.
That's when you are starting to spend big bucks!!

Yes and those of us that aren't breeders but show their dogs get nothing back money wise.
It's all just for fun and the feel good when you have a pointed or Champion dog. Being involved with such events provides valuable information and you meet so many great people.
Hey Basenji_boy! Aren't your Kim Byrd?? You don't breed anymore?? I look up your info and your website is Kisabasenjis, that's Kim's website.

**Not to mention gas and mileage, and time off work if you have to take Friday off to drive to the show for a 2 day show weekend. AND hotel cost…etc!!
I always say that it cost about $1500 to finish a dog, roughly about $100 per point. You spend about $100 on expenses per a weekend show, and if you are lucky, you bring home a point or two. If not, you try harder again at next show. LOL
Oh yea, like Pat said, cost of show photos. BOY OH BOY!
Another $30+ a pop!If you finish a dog under $1500 on expenses, that's a cheap championship!! :o)
That's why any responsible breeder who shows and does all the health testings before breeding, have eyes done on each pup and vaccinations AND microchip if not more. You are lucky to break even when having a litter of pups. Not to mention all the time you put in to socialize, clean up after, feeding and around the clock care before the little ones go to their new homes at at least 8 weeks of age. I like to keep mine till 10 weeks.
Anyhoo.....off my soup box!!! Again, congrats to Pat and Kobey for being one point closer to his championship!!**
Right on…. you are so right.... and then add in those of us that do performance on top of showing...
However, all that said, we know that when we(responsible breeders) place puppies, we are placing well bred, health tested, properly socialized, well raised, happy well adjusted puppies (this is not to say that you will not have your problems with pups...LOL, they are still Basenjis and puppies after all)..... and these pups are on a contract (spay/neuter unless other arrangements are made with the breeder) and the breeder is responsible and will take back their pups for its entire lifetime.

That's good, Willy still has just two points, with a little more than limited showing.:(

Well once you get on a roll, they go quick…. it is the majors around here that are a real "pain" in the butt to find.....

Well once you get on a roll, they go quick…. it is the majors around here that are a real "pain" in the butt to find.....
**YES, major pain in the butt especially for those
of us who live and show in division 8, where it takes 10 dogs 11
bitches for a 3 pointer. 6 dog 7 bitches for just 2 points.
That's like a major in some divisions! Sigh….......tough tough tough! The numbers have dropped, I think it was 13 dogs and 13 bitches for
a 3 pointer last year or the year before. We hardly have entries over 10
dogs total in both sexes here in Colorado. We have to travel hundreds
of miles to get our majors, or have to recruit breeders from out of
state and we each enter 3,4 dogs in order to build a 3 point major.
It's very very tough. I think last time we have a major here was like 3 years
ago. It was one bitch shy of being a major, and the class bitch ended up
winning BOS over two bitch specials to get the major, and thank God Winners
Dog went BOW to share the major. And that dog was my Radar!I was floating that day! I remember that day very well as I showed the bitch in
breed as it was a client dog, and I handed Radar off to a friend and she
managed to win BOW with him for the major.**

Radar is a lovely dog!!!!!
