Lompoc Valley KC 7/28

  • On Saturday at the Lompoc Valley Kennel Club show under June Penta, Sophie the black and white, half Avongara went WB/BOW for her second point. Sophie is 7 months old and is really more of a clown than a show dog in the ring. I really didn't think we were going to win our class let alone take WB. On the table she couldn't stop wagging her tail for the judge. On the down and back, she didn't want to leave the judge to do the down and back. So I was amazed that we managed to win our class. For WB, I had Rio in the ring and had my mom bring Sophie back in. Well, Sophie thought it was play time and was wagging, wiggling, and batting at my mom so much I had to ask the judge if it would be okay if we switched dogs. Her response, "I think that would be best." And even after all of her clowning around she still managed to beat her sister.

  • Gotta pull for the B/W's!:)

    Congrats to you all!

@Borbasuk: I have judged a couple of overseas specialties and have found my efficient and helpful stewards to be worth their weight in gold; they always are of course, but with an unfamiliar system and language this is even more true.:) That is so true, a good ring steward is for sure worth their weight in gold regardless of the situation. I have nothing but the greatest respect for a good ring steward…... and I can image being in a situation that you are in a strange country with different judging procedures how much the judge would rely on the ring steward

Thank you everyone. I wasn't sure he was going to get it all because on the last leg, he refused to sit at every station. I had to retry two stations twice and two stations once each. Shadow would look at the ground and ignore me! I came out of the ring and a woman asked me,'What happened?'. I had to tell her that they are independent and if he decided he wasn't going to co-operate, he just wouldn't do it. He is solid when he does something, but to get him to do it is another thing. He had two trials in one day, so I guess he figured one time being good was enough, he didn't have to do it twice. Ahhhh, it's a B!

Hi Stef-how have you been. I haven't seen much of you in the last couple of years. You probably don't remember me though. I'm usually with Lynn Arrand and Sue Wilcox. If your dog is CKC registered, we require 10 points including at least one 'major' (two points or more). It's not super hard to obtain a championship-unless you have a black as I do. Black is pretty well always dead last. But now they do require one two point win. The only problem is that we kind of have to co-ordinate a show. Since there aren't many of us, we get together and decide which shows we will be entering. It's more like a friendly event than competition. It's fun and a social event for us if you can imagine.
