The "Look"

Basenji Talk

  • We were on vacation in a remote rural area at a lumberjack festival. We brought our dogs with us. During the festival this big fat farmer in overalls comes up to us with his friend and points at our dogs tail and says "look at that dog, he has a tail like a piggy, I never seen a dog like that!" and just starts busting up laughing at him.

The dog, facing the other direction, turns completely around and looks the guy straight in the eye with the most hateful look.

The guy just immediately shuts up, shocked and just walked away. Then we laughed hysterically!

  • Good for the fur babies…how rude of the farmer...he obviously doesn't know class when he sees it...great story...

  • Funny how many people think that his tail is not natural

  • Isn't it funny how these dogs know who is werth their time and who are not!:)

  • That's funny! Awww poor piggy tails :D :D ROFL!!!

  • Just proves to me what I've already thought. These dogs are are smarter than most people I meet and I would also add, I like the dogs better in most cases.:D

I would just like to ditto B Boy's sentiments and add to that an Amen Brother! ;) :) :D

  • **My three boys make every day special for me. :D

There's darn few people I'd say that about!**

  • Hey, hate to be rude, but maybe the B look was saying to him, Well, I might have a Pig tail but you farmerboy have a PIG body. haha!!!!!!!!

Do I EVER agree with Basenji Boy's comment. I work two part-time jobs, one of which is at a Doggie Day Care and I love dealing with the dogs and not people!!!:D

I do wish Hollie had the curly tail. They are so cute! I got her from a shelter and her tail was already cut, it is about 3 inches long.

  • Basenji seem to be the masters of the non-verbal put down. And I also agree with Basenji Boy's comment, reminds of that bumper sticker: the more I know of people, the better I like my dog.

What is the correct plural of Basenji? 'Basenjis' or 'Basenji'? A Yodel of Besenjis?

@Knipper: Cricket canters true on left and right lead. Her flying lead changes are stunning! I wish I could get those out of Ryley! Perry does nice flying changes too, and occasionally does a simple change through trot. He is certainly smoother and more consistent than most of my horses, who will throw in a disunited stride or two on occasion! :)

our garden is loaded with fieldmouses at the moment…. my B's do not care very much but my Ibizan hounds snack them all the time, sometimes they bring one inside for me to have, as a present, and they look quite offended when they notice I throw their delicious present in the garbage can ....

How true. I'm surprised no one has started Basenji Anonymous, LOL It's like pringles can't have one. Although I have just one now. I have owned Basenjsi for 30 years. I tell my dog loving co-workers about Kay-Dee's antics and they love hearing about her. She goes a lot of places with me and she has her own fan club.

Sahara does not like the dark either, I have to go out with her for her evening potty runs. She gets out there and if I am there she will go in the front or back, but will look around the side of the house to make sure I am still there. She is so funny.
