TLDR: First time Basenji owners to a beautiful sweet Obi!
Hello everyone! I am amazed to see active forums still exist in this day in age of the Facebooks and Reddits. I'm old enough to remember pre-smart phones days but young enough to have lived my grade-school years on AIM, Yahoo Groups, and bored.com.
We are a crazy busy family that had no room or time for a dog as we didn't find it fair to get a dog and have it be alone for 10+ hours a day (our cats on the other hand love this alone time!). With the help of one of the rare positive things Covid-19 brought around, I now work remotely and thus home 24 hours a day most days. We didn't make a pandemic decision to get a dog due to life still being quite busy, too busy to have a dog around as well.
December 2021 we welcomed home our sweet, smart, beautiful boy Obi, whose named we picked for the meaning of heart in his roots and our love of Star Wars. Puppy training has me reminiscing the toddler years this home has witnessed; however, he learned how to sit and ring the bell to go outside early on which has aided in potty training.

@jeimygirl
Welcome to the Forum. Obi is adorable - so precious 🥰! Congratulations on your new pup! ️ -
He's a great looking little guy. Love the tie! Good job on the potty training and bell. Very cool. Keep LOTS of chew toys handy. He might start chewing some of your favorite stuff. Keep the toys handy so you can give him something he can chew when you remove him from the things you'd rather not chew. Have fun and enjoy. He looks like he has a lot of character. Congrats!

Many of us are related by our Basenjis, care to share the sire/dam?

@jengosmonkey thanks for the tip! We have chew toys everywhere now too, they are certainly a must have and for the most part does good about sticking to them. It is quite funny to see him when he grabs something he shouldn't, he knows it and you can almost hear him laugh as he runs away with it

Many thanks for this - but what is your pup's name and birthday so I can record it in the on-line Basenji database - along, hopefully with pictures as he matures !

Awesome!

Obi is his call name, we haven't given him anything other than that so far. I saw the database and it really neat! I'll send you pictures when he's older for it too

@jeimygirl - It is important that you register your pup with AKC... please do so... and let Zande know the registered name
-
@tanza & @Jeimygirl I can add him as "Obi" in inverted commas but need his birthdate too. And doing that makes him look like a dog without papers and that is a shame. He should be a proud Basenji, fully registered with the AKC !

@jeimygirl I have added him to the database and he will appear as soon as I finish playing catch-up with today's incoming litters. So you will be able to see his ancestors very soon ! It is very easy to add his registration number and change his name at need.
Email me photos as he matures and get photos of Mom and Dad too if you can - they really bring the pedigrees to life.
