    My oldest male Basenji, Moses, got nailed by a car about 10 years back. At 11 years old he is feeling it when the weather is cold and rainy. About 6 years back a ladder kicked out from under me. I have 3 plates in my wrist. I know Moses' pain.

    I friend of mine is one of those "hippie chicks". She has recommended acupuncture. For both of us.

    Normally I am skeptical of such treatments. However, I have horrible allergies. The kind that shut down respitory systems with the right antoganists. My friend has recommended a regiment of fenu-thyme and garlic. This actually works. I don't get nasal infections. This "hippie crap" does wonders. Unless I'm around some nasty, invasive agents; then I need the industrial grade medication. What vets give to rhinos for nasal infections.

    I am hoping that others have an open mind and have witnessed the benefeits of acupunture. In 10 years I have done the meds, the pain killers, the PT. All we are left with is the acupunture. I can spend my money on known failures or I can spend my money on an unkown and maybe get positive results.

    I cannot imagine I am the only one in this predicament. I just want to hear from others who have tried acupuncture.

    While I have not tried acupunture, I know lots of people with other breeds that have and have only good things to say about it….

    I have not tried acupuncture myself- or for my dogs… they are still young, but I had a very dear friend whose lab had severe arthritis... she found great results with acupuncture; granted they were not long lasting- she had to keep taking her dog for more sessions, but she did find that it helped relieve some of the painful symptoms.

That is so scary!! I doubt the big manufacturers would ever allow a real study to see the light of day, but I would love to see one done. Just the thought makes me want to keep feeding my girl human grade foods. Yeah the same here, her research indicated that raw chicken wings were the optimal food and contain pretty much everything needed. I guess if you think of some of the processed crap they have in supermarkets trading as food for humans you can imagine how low the bar can go for pet food.

    @Rebel - Full blood workup including full Thyroid panel (full panel no just what the normal vet workup that is not a full thyroid panel)... as they say make sure that he is in good health. Also what are you feeding him? How much total are you feeding a day? Also with reducing food, add veggies to his food to fill his belly... green beans are good to use... I use Cauliflower and Broccoli... Note also that low normal is typically too low for Basenjis.

    @serenjane My Kembe had the freckles on her neck - more pronounced in summer months w/ the sun and also as she aged. I use to call her my little 🦒 giraffe. 😂

    To give you an idea of the contrast between Basenjis and Border Collies, my BC once spit out a pill, I said "Blackie" in a disapproving tone, and he picked it up from the floor and swallowed it!

    The 14yo JRT that I used to pet sit would get accupuncture for his arthritis in his hip & shoulder. It worked fantastic for him and gave him great relief…and he only would make a noise (he was a growly cranky old man) when they would put the needle in near the crown, otherwise, he would just lie there while they put the rest of the needles in. Kind of amazing.
