    Does anyone have a dog with a cataract? It appears that my Bowie who just turned 5 has one in his right eye. It appeared about 2-3 weeks ago and looks like it covers his entire eye. I have read that it could be nuclear sclerosis since they are similar but this is usually found in older dogs. This was supposedly his good eye except it did have dry eye. He seems to have better vision in his left eye which has the PPM and other problems then the right one. He is still able to see squirrels in the trees and can follow them when they jump from limb to limb or tree to tree! I am hoping to get him seen at OSU next week. He was seen by Dr. Tracy and his bloodwork was normal.

    His mom has a cataract but it is not noticeable and at every exam the opthalmologist has always been able to see around it. It was diagnosed when I first rescued her when she was 5. Bowie's eye problems except for the dry eye and now the cataract were diagnosed when he was a pup. I took Bambi and her pups I rescued to the opthalmologist to be looked at since Bowie had a blue eye.

    Has anyone had or know of someone who had cataract surgery for their B?

    Did she always have them or did they start after something/some time? Do antihistamines clear the problem?

I had a similar experience, one of my dog's (not doodle) had a grossly swollen leg following a vet visit. The Vet told me it was cancer and I opted to let her go. Month's later I read online that it could have been the result of an allergic reaction. Please advise your friend to research possible answers before she makes a decision. That is so scary!! I doubt the big manufacturers would ever allow a real study to see the light of day, but I would love to see one done. Just the thought makes me want to keep feeding my girl human grade foods. Yeah the same here, her research indicated that raw chicken wings were the optimal food and contain pretty much everything needed. I guess if you think of some of the processed crap they have in supermarkets trading as food for humans you can imagine how low the bar can go for pet food.

    @Rebel - Full blood workup including full Thyroid panel (full panel no just what the normal vet workup that is not a full thyroid panel)... as they say make sure that he is in good health. Also what are you feeding him? How much total are you feeding a day? Also with reducing food, add veggies to his food to fill his belly... green beans are good to use... I use Cauliflower and Broccoli... Note also that low normal is typically too low for Basenjis.

    Had you opened a new bag around the time this started? Sometimes they change ingredients or suppliers of ingredients, which is the way an allergen can sneak in....
