Litter Theme Ideas! Just for fun!

  • Ok, So i have heard of people doing litter themes. (i am NOT having a litter, this is plainly just for fun) I want to see some of the clever things people come up with when it comes to litter themes. Ok, so feel free to go crazy! :D

If you can, try to say the theme you used and list ideas afterwards. If you want to expand even more, you can give registered names! (for a kennel name just use Kennel name or add one if you wish) Ex: I think it would be really cool to use the following theme:

    Trees Theme

    Aspen
    Willow
    Alder
    Spruce
    Cedar
    Redwood
    etc

    OR there could be:

    Cars Theme

    Mercedes
    Audi
    Hundai
    etc

Go crazy and feel free to add onto mine! This should be fun! ok…GO!!!!

  • How about this try to guess the themes from these registered names.

    Litter 1:
    Kinetic Sourcery
    Kinetic's Enchanted Knight
    Kinetic Heart Of Lucky Magic
    Kinetic Pharoah's Magician

    Litter 2:
    Kinetic-Tanza Soul Delight
    Kinetic-Tanza Black Eyed Soul
    Kinetic-Tanza Soul Music

    Litter 3:
    Kinetic Enchanted Timeless Beauty
    Kinetic Enchanted 3rd Time's A Charm
    Kinetic Enchanted Time Bandit
    Kinetic Enchanted Time to Run

    Litter 4:
    Kinetic Interesting Times

OOOO! Thanks Lisa! I love guessing games. haha i may not be the best, but they are tons of fun!

Litter 1 - Sourcery, Knight, Magic, Magician. I think are what would be related to the theme, however im not sure. Maybe like..shoot. idk the word for it. lol HAHA What is this one?
    Litter 2 - soul :D
Litter 3 - Time? Enchanted Time?

  • Here's an easy one (actual names): Celestial Gemini, Celestial Draco, Celestial Rigel, Celestial Wizard
I thought I had the theme until the last name.

  • In Litter one you picked one of the key words wrong should sourcery, enchanted, magic, magician. In litter three it helps to know that Enchanted became the kennel name use by my mom in honor of her first basenji Kinetic Enchanted Knight.

Ummm. Draco reminds me of Harry potter. So does wizzard. dont know the others so i guess im not sure. lol :P

OH! duh! so its like a magical/special powers type of litter?? kinda…..and that is really cool of the Enchanted thing. I love when things are dedicated in honor of "firsts" like her first basenji. very nice. Thanks all for the fun guessing games!

Anyone have ones that are not used, maybe ones you thought of using that were neat and you would like to share? This is a forum so dont use ones that you dont want people to use, as im sure someone will see it and want to use it if it is cute/clever enough :)

  • L'Ox my singleton's litter theme could still be used since the theme would have been proverbs/curses. You know like May you live in Interesting Times hence Kinetic Interesting Times, first intact boy in my home in 6 years and me with a house full of intact girls. It is truly Interesting Times with breeding season around the corner.

  • I use themes for the registered names all of my litters. Some of the themes that I have used are Red, New Year, Time, Southern, Moon, Secret, Affair, Something, Special, Christmas Eve, Cars, and Rain. It makes it easier to remember what puppy came from what litter this way.

ROBYN your ok!! :) lol people have been wondering about you…well Tanza i think was one and then i wasnt sure either. haha but anyways thank you very much. Those are some good themes. I bet theme litter naming is alot of fun, when the puppies are actually here HAHA :P

So would you mind going into detail on how you would pick names for some of them? EX: Special, Something, Moon, New Year, Red? lol I can kinda imagine the other ones but those i am not sure how you would make the names part. I may be slow today tho lol

I didn't realize that I was missed but thank you. Three weeks ago, I was unable to get my Mom on the phone so I went to her house. (She lived alone.) I found her laying on the floor just outside the bathroom. She had slipped in the bathroom, fell, and broke her hip. She had been laying there for hours. After a few days in the hospital, she was moved to a nursing home. It was supposed to be temporary but the trauma of the injury escalated her dementia. My siblings and I have been very busy trying to figure out what to do. I am also dealing with a health issue that will probably require surgery soon. Needless to say, I have been a bit "out of it" lately.

These are just the litters that I bred myself. I have co-bred with other people and we used really nice themes that they chose.

Red - The litter was all red puppies but mostly because the names I liked went well with the word "red". (Sherwood's Red Baron LCM2 "Baron" still lives with me. He will be 16 on Dec 14.)
New Year was born on Jan 1st and Christmas Eve was born on Dec 24th (Sherwood's New Year Mischief "Mischief" just passed away recently at 14 1/2 years old.)
Time - A great theme that you can do a lot with. (Sherwood's Timeswept Promises "Pippin" still lives with me. She will be 14 on Dec 20.)
Moon - The dam's name was Ch. Sherwood's Red Moon Rising (from my "Red" litter) and was called Luna. We used "Moon" to honor her. (We lost Luna recently at the age of 15 1/2 years old. LVoss on this forum owns "Rally" from this litter and Nicky from my "Time" litter.)
Affair and Secret were my "oops" litters
Rain was to remember a late summer of constant downpours that led to flash flooding that went within a mile of my home. (The owners of Sherwood's Late Harvest Napa Rain "Dolce" are on this forum. I still have Sherwood's I Love A Rainy Night "Rainie" and Sherwood's Rainy Night In Georgia "Spot" from this litter.)
Cars - I let the buyer of the first puppy in the litter set the theme. She wanted to call her pup Lexus so I used a "Cars" theme. (The owners of Sherwood's Sweet Honey Chevelle "Chevy" are on this forum. The owners of Sherwood's Little Red Corvette "Cory" and Sherwood's Secret Keeper "Jayden" from my "secret" litter are on this forum.)
Something - I just liked the way it sounded with my kennel name. (The owner of Can Ch Sherwood's Something Sweet "Sugar" is on this forum. Ch Sherwood's Something Special "Bindi" lives with me.)
Southern - I'm a southern girl. Another word that sounds good with my kennel name.
Special - This litter was sire by my old man Baron. He has always been very special in my heart and thus I named the litter reflecting it.
I let the owner's of my singleton litter choose the registered name, Sherwood's Jedi Master. Her call name is "Ayla" after a jedi knight named Aayla Secura. (The husband chose it.)

Choosing a theme is a lot of fun but I always let the owners help pick out the registered name. I usually provide a list that they can choose from or they can come up with something within the theme on their own and I approve it. The owner's may call their dog anything they want though. Hope this helps. :)

  • Well, I know how at least one of the Moon names was picked because she is my girl. Rally is Sherwood's Shadow of the Moon. She is the black and white daughter of Red Moon Rising so it seemed fitting that she would be the Shadow of the Moon. Her siblings are Sherwood's Spirit of The Moon and Sherwood's Eclipse of the Moon.

Nicky is from Robyn's Time litter, Sherwood's In The Nick of Time, and he picked his own name, all his kids have Time in their names.

:) Well we had noticed that you have not replied in a while, well i noticed after tanza did, but ya so its nice to hear from you again. And I am very very sorry to hear about your mom. How aweful that must be and feel. I hope she gets a speedy recovery and she feels better soon. I know it cant be easy on your family either.

That is VERY HELPFUL!! thank you! So you have all the owners picked out before? What happens when they back out? Do you send in the registration for them? Do they do it? If they back out, is the puppy stuck with the name they chose? That is really interesting and very helpful tho! Thank you so much! Very very interesting names and ideas. Thanks! I think Something is a really cool one too! :)

Like much internet advice I find short answers incomplete - and mine was. I really want to ad that making a crate/xpen/gated puppy area should never be seen as "punishment". These partitioned puppy areas should be conditioned to be safe places for a puppy/dog. Mine, thankfully, tolerates and even likes her xpens probably because it's where she eats, receives treats, sleeps, chews and even plays. This took about a week or so. Now she voluntarily goes into her xpens (in my case) on her own and when she's put there involuntarily she might whine for a minute before settling down with a chew and/or going to sleep.

@seattlebasenji said in Potty Training Difficulty - 12-15 mo old Basenji: *** Any ideas about how I can effectively potty train him? *** You mention that you take your dog to the same area when you take him out to 'toilet', I suppose thinking that he'll associate that spot as his bathroom(?). But I think you would be more successful if you took your dog out for long walks. Your dog needs exercise anyway, and movement begets movement (if you know what I mean). Besides, walking is a very social activity for dogs. They walk in packs and when you walk with your dog, you become part of their pack. Some people like two half hour walks each day. Personally, I try to get one really long walk in every day (weather permitting), typically 3 miles or 90 minutes. Sometimes shorter, sometimes longer. (I got bored walking the same route. Now we go different places (local dog parks, woods, and such) and explore new routes. Mix it up a little. The walk provides time for the two of you to bond. It's an opportunity for you to reinforce training, provide encouragement (and praise). And it allows your dog to eliminate (or toilet), naturally, without pressure.

@Buddys: I agree, well said Robyn. A very well rounded reply, and I appreciate your time in explaining the options that are out there. I am not one who advocates adopting ONLY from a shelter or rescue. I love to hear that it happens, but totally respect the choice of wanting a pedigree. I just hope that anyone who breeds for what ever reason does follow responsible guidelines for the prospective new owners, health and welfare of the puppies, dams and sires, and of the wholesomeness(?) of the breed of choice. I do have a waiting list for the future puppies (besides the ones that myself and the co breeder are keeping.) I also have a contract that states for any reason the puppies are welcome back at any time for any reason and i highly urge this to my potential owners (i say required but we all know that people fall through loops when you say required) anyways All of my dogs are health tested and the sire is health tested too. Fanconi, eyes, thyroid, and the hips I am waiting for results but she isnt in heat yet so i hope i will get it before they are bred. Trust me, I also know how rescues are. I have rescued (www.foreverfriendsrescue.webs.com) since 2008 when i rescued my first dog scheduled to be put down that day i went into the pound, and i never really stopped) so i know the effects that bad breeders can have on the dog population. Which is why we need to have more responsible breeders out there. Ones who do the health testing, ones who care where there puppies go, ones who want to help the breed, ones who give a $h!t. I love this breed. They are my world and i just cant live without them. They chose me. I chose them. Its the only breed that is right for ME. and I know this. I love showing (only been to a few so far, as i am fairly new) but i love it and i enjoy meeting new people that share the love of basenjis too and I enjoy the fun and sport of it. I really want to do what is right with breeding, which is why i have waited to find a good breeder to help me along and to help guide me as my mentor. Miah is a wonderful dog, so close to standard. and so pretty. nice pedigree and the most supurb temperament also. With my mating (dorsey x miah) I expect great things! Me and my co owner are really excited as is the sire owner. We cant wait for this litter. I know breeding is a huge controversy because of all the unwanted pets in the world, but i have been there with rescueing and if i truely didnt feel like my dog was worthy of it, and i truely didnt feel like I could do it CORRECTLY, i honestly wouldnt. but thank you for your input. I know you care, as do we. but i really am trying to do it right. Spent lots of money getting tests done, and finding a really nice bitch to start with, and getting the knowledge. (I got my first basenji 11 years ago! and i have researched and experienced the whole time!) After 11 years, i feel i am finally ready to take the step and breed my bitch to start my kennel where i want to continue to show and create loving, family pets. as well as fun things like coursing and agility, etc..
