Basenji Showing
  • Hello all my BasenjiForum friends!

I was just wondering if anyone is interested in going to the sioux empire kennel club dog show in october 2011 (sioux falls, South Dakota)

I am going to this show with my girl, Sophie and would like to have some competition (not many basenjis in South Dakota, let alone sioux falls) If anyone is planning on going i would absolutely adore you! :D I really want to see what she can do in the ring, will be fun experience and just a fun time. Just want to see what she has.

Please comment, id like to see who all is interested in going or if they know someone who would go just to give me some ideas and to chat. I LOVE meeting and talking to basenji people! What fun!

    Let me know, thank you!

  • try checking infodog.com you should be able to find some local shows there

  • Thanks Andrea! Ill check it out, i appreciate it!

As far as I know (by how the rules were a few years ago) you are correct Clay. All you need to finish a dog is an ERN number. You don't even need that to show the dog…but you want to apply for it after she wins a point, or else you will lose any points accrued. Usually I wait to get an ERN until the dog wins a point....that way no money lost if I choose to not show the dog in Canada again. Canadian shows are sooo fun...and the people in the BCOC are really nice and welcoming, and the prizes are awesomely generous. I always enjoy it so much when we can make it to their National.

re: "A sanctioned match is important though, I believe new clubs must hold a certain amount of matches in a certain time frame before they're allowed to hold regular dog shows. Sorta like a trial run to make sure the club can do everything needed to run the event and take care of paperwork appropriately. Also already established clubs will hold matches in the evening after the show, and I have a feeling they are a good money maker for the club since they already have all the equipment and everything taken care of for the weekend." This is partly true - a club however in order to maintain it's status as a show giving club has to complete a certain number of components in a given year - a match can be one of them. Do some do it for money - maybe - but I'll tell you from experience that at the end of a show - about the last thing a show giving club is thinking about it's doing more work! we're typically too tired!!!!! In any event a match is good practice for the dogs, the judges and a great way to get your feet wet. You will have a blast.
