Your anger is apparent. That others can't disagree without you attacking them is not what I am used to from you. That you have to attack when others feel as strongly that it IS enabling makes me wonder why you are so angry. This person didn't buy one dog, she got 20. So she lost money on this one (she CLAIMS)…she made money. Talk her into giving up the bitch for free, talk her into neutering the male. Then I might believe she isn't lying and doing it to make money.
Regardless, it is one thing to disagree, another to attack others for disagreeing. Basically you are beating up others for having an idea of what is right because it doesn't agree with your view.
And yes, if you have a SERIOUS doubt and the action goes against your experience and beliefs, it is a reason not to act. Not one person here suggested they never act if ANY doubt!!!

it is absolutely possible to check this woman out and view her home and get as much info as possible before deciding to purchase the basenji
but rather then people trying to come up with constructive ideas about what to do all anyone seems to want to do is talk about how it SHOULDNT be done because this MIGHT happen or that MIGHT happen
or this MIGHT be a lie etc etc etc
and the sky MIGHT fall tomorrow too but that doesnt mean you just sit and do nothing does it?

The constructive idea is to encourage her to give the dog to BRAT.
Educate her about why that is the best option for her and her dog that she says she loves so much.

encourage the seller to GIVE the dog away and educate her as to why this is the best idea?
or pay her the 200.00 and consider it money well spent and then take the dog and let brat find her a home
and once again this is IF it can be shown that by doing so we are not "perpetuating the cycle of …....."
which of course is also a given and should have been seen as given right from the start

all it would take is someone to go to her house check out the situation make sure its not a breeding facility sound her out and then make an informed decision about whether purchasing the dog will perpetuate....... or not
anything else is just a lot of hot air and a waste of time

perhaps the houston address is business and home is in clear lake?
perhaps look up in the directory an address for mary beth weiss? to get the home address?
of course if anyone can simply email her ask for a time to meet and see the dog she would i assume give the home address which would be great would be one good way of finding out what is going on
If we want to live in the real world then you would admit that if she can be lying about loving the dog then she could just as easily be lying about not having plans to breed one or both of the puppies she kept from this litter.
The constructive answer that does not put money into the pockets of an irresponsible breeder is to do the best you can to educate about why surrrendering the dog to a reputable rescue is in the best interest of her and the dog. It may not be successful but it is the best anyone can do. I don't see you volunteering to shell out the money to do this, instead you came here to ask other people to spend their hard earned money to do it and have tried to lay a guilt trip on those that said they don't feel it is right reward irresponsibility. It isn't like she didn't know the dog limits when she bred the bitch or decided to keep 2 puppies and dump their now no longer wanted dam.

well, I have been in contact with her and she is wanting to rehome several dogs..I have mentioned BRAT but thinks she won't go for that as she is wanting money.
The female in particular is showing some aggression (towards the other females in the house..somewhat normal behavior right?) while with her pups and she stated some people won't like that so she is getting rid of her and keeping two of the puppies instead…not a loving thing to do in my opinion. We'll see maybe she will do the BRAT thing..would love for that to happen.

I am not getting in between the two opinions that seem to be on this thread but I will say this:
I read all the posts in this thread and what struck me odd was when I heard the address this woman gave was a business address, what strikes me odd about this is that why would someone want to give a business address? To me that says there's something to hide. I say this because she can get into personals but give an informal contact…I personally would take that to mean "this person doesn't want me seeing there place."

..and when I contacted her to potentially come visit the dog as a "buyer", she gave me yet another area of town she lives in, not League City but Seabrook…hmmm.
When I told you that there is a possibility that she isn't being honest with you, it wasn't to discourage you, it was to let you know that it happens. I know you said that it doesn't matter to you as long as it gets this girl into BRAT, but as someone that has been scammed by dishonest BYBs, I thought it was important to let you know.
Did she say what will happen to the dogs if she doesn't sell them? Animal shelter, rescue, etc? She mentioned have over 20 dogs, so are these two (the male and female mentioned in her email) the last of the 20+? If she does take them to an animal shelter, then BRAT can get them from there without having to spend money that they need to help lots of other Bs in the organization.
LOL so I went looking using her number… and while it is encouraging I don't find her listed as a commercial breeder, she obviously is selling these dogs to make money. I also am suspicious since she CLAIMED she came home with 20.. so who knows, local paper ads, direct to pet stores? What happened with the others?

She has been with me about 6 months and was meant to be a companion for my basenji female but, cant have two alphas in the same house. I paid $400 (+ $300 transportation) for her plus the dog whisper (ask $1250 a dog) and comes with a behavior lifetime guarantee from her.
This ad made me throw up:
Red AKC Red and White Intact Male Basenji…He has mainly been an outside dog, weather permitting, but does come inside at night. He is intact and is a knowledgeable breeder. His last breeding he sired 8 puppies…Would be willing to sell his girlfriend with him. You will see him cuddled up with his two girls in the pictures. Only selling him and girlfriend due to homeowners restriction of only 3 pets per household and I want to keep his pups.
She has yet to respond to my email regarding BRAT…she is not interested in the best for these animals..only the money..in my opinion..so sad.
I don't know how many dogs she still has, but she has at least 5 or so grown basenjis and then several puppies too..She is only keeping two of the puppies and her daughter is keeping one according to the email I received...so they are effectively doing "out with the old, in with the new"...
She told me she is in Seabrook..why the ads mention League city or houston I don't know.
