• Hello to all the members from Kristine & Max!

Max is my beloved 13 yr old dogchild. He came into my life as a puppy from a Basenji breeder in Northern California. We live in the Bay Area now.

I was led to this site during my search for information. Sadly Max has some as yet undiagnosed illness, and I have many questions regarding his symptoms, treatment options, average life expectency, similar experiences etc. The biggest question now is, should I let him go or try to extend his life with medical intervention. I will post details on the appropriate thread as the moderators have asked.

In the meantime, I am so happy to have found a community that loves Basenji's as much as I do!

  • Welcome Kristine and Max! Where are you in the area? I'm in Redwood City. What symptoms is Max showing? Have you done a full blood panel to check his thyroid levels? That can be a major problem with older adult Basenjis. The thyroid is low so it causes a lot of problems but the good news is it's cheap to handle with thyroid pills.
A couple just signed up from Fremont yesterday.

Welcome to the forum, Krsitine and Max. We are glad you are here. I am sorry to hear about Max' failing health.

  • Welcome to our group! Sorry to hear about Max but there's a wealth of information here about health issues – someone is sure to pipe in or you can use the search for past conversations for help.

  • Welcome. Sorry your b is ill.

  • We live in Lafayette and would love to meet up with any locals! Does anyone know about the group of basenjis' and their people that used to meet at Pt Isabell on the second Tuesday of the month (or something like that)? This was years ago but do they still meet?

  • Welcome to the forum 🙂
