Hello

  • I'm a past keeper of a Basenji, well actually he tolerated me:) He's been gone about six years now and am finally thinking about bringing another into my life!
I've been lurking around here and some other sites for a while and I thought I'd catch up here and see just what the state of the Basenji world was like these days!

    Regards, Dave

  • Welcome Dave! Can't wait to hear of your adoption adventures!! :)

Dave, welcome! Have you considered the idea of adopting a rescue via Basenji Rescue and Transport (BRAT) (www.basenjirescue.org)??)

  • Welcome!!!

  • Glad you're back to "the wonderful world of Basenjis". This is a great place to learn , get advice, and just chat.

  • The BRAT org. is new to me and I'll definately check with them!
Our Basenji was a rescue of sorts, I got him from a family (@10 months old) that was not equiped to handle any dog let alone that crazy little guy! Boy-O-Boy was he a handful at first! But over the next ten or so years we came to an understanding:D Best dog I've ever had, went everywhere with me!

He was so goofy - scared to death of ants and spiders but would fearlessly chase the neighbors Rott. out of the yard, then yodel with pride at his dominance!
At night he'd HAVE TO sleep under the covers and curl up by my feet and everytime I'd move he'd growl, like I was disturbing HIM! Man I miss him!

Anyway, Enough time has passed that I need another Basenji challenge!

  • Hello and welcome to the forum. I hope you decide to rescue/adopt and wish you luck in doing so. I look forward to hearing all about the adoption and dog!!

  • Welcome Dave! Keep us posted…! This is a great site for Basenji owners, past, present or future!

  • Dave hello, I also am new to this site. I had my frist Basenji for sixteen years and lost her last year. I could only go for about a month before getting my next Basenji. I really love this breed I have two now. Good luck in your search for your next Basenji.

I own five basenjis. Two yodel until you have a headache and my female barks. She always did. Short clipped barks. I also researched the breed before getting my first and she is an excellent dog. My third basenji was a handful. Three years later and he has stopped his destructiveness etc. It was a hard three years. Lol. You never know with a basenji. Greatest breed. Loyal, active, funny but some require ALOT of patience.

Big hugs to you for adopting an older basenji. My heart gets broken when I see the senior b's on the BRAT web page. :( So give Pippi a hug for me.

First off, Welcome to our site of valueable Basenji information. I have learned so much linking into this site, we have lots of laughs as well. My B, Sahara, crosses her legs all the time, she is such a showoff and often has the regal queen look. I love the look myself, they are such beautiful dogs I must say, not that I am partial or anything. Your Piper is so cute, welcome again.

Hi Kiro, Welcome our neck of the woods. I live just a bit past Emmittsburg in PA so I'm not too far. The Mid-Atlantic Basenji Club meets at the Carroll County Agricultural Center right there in Westminster. Our next meeting is 1 June and there will also be a spring fun match that same day. It starts at 0900. There is a Yahoo group for the club that has info about the event. It's fun and games. It's really neat to see so many basenjis in one place. Hope you can make it. It's a nice club to belong to. Karen

@WriggleysMom: We've always had rescues and I feel like I've missed out on puppy antics, so I'm debating. Toby doesn't baroo or wag his tail and I really miss being met at the door with a welcome baroo and a tail trying to wag itself off!! I had a puppy and was getting the urge for another but now we have a 7-mo old foster and I can't take my eyes off her. I remembered I really did not miss that!
