    Anyone feed Canidae?

Here's a coupon for their new higher protein, single grain formula:

    http://www.canidae.com/dogs/single-grain-protein-plus/coupon.php

"CANIDAE Single Grain Protein Plus is a super-premium dog food featuring five high quality protein sources: fresh chicken, with chicken, turkey, lamb and fish meals.

"With 29% protein, fresh chicken as the first ingredient, and a single grain source - brown and white rice only - Single Grain Protein Plus provides simple, natural results.

"To request your $5 OFF COUPON toward a 30 pound bag, or $2 OFF COUPON toward a 15 pound bag, please supply your information [at the link]"

We're avoiding all processed chicken here, but we've fed Canidae lamb & rice in the past. I haven't had a chance to try their grain-free salmon recipe, which also looks pretty good.

  • Thanks! Sharing with others

  • I've just bought the Candidae as a back up in case i can't get hold of Evo - grain free, i haven't tried it on my basenji yet, but is it pretty much the same as Evo? Also, what's the go with the pumpkin? Will this help her (Chilli) gain weight??

@Saving said in Anal Gland Health Diet Adjustment (ideas?): scavenging on walks has increased though and that's quite annoying. LOL, omgosh! The amount of food tossed on the ground is astounding! And doodle will grab it up before I have any idea it's there! I wish I had a picture of the day she pulled a (whole) bagel out of a bush!

Not sure how Xylitol is being marketed. It is an alcohol found in a lot of plants, including birch wood, which is the source of Xylitol used in medicines. And it is toxic to dogs, even in small amounts. Most of the time you find it in sugarless gum and candy. Here is an FDA warning "Paws Off Xylitol": https://www.fda.gov/consumers/consumer-updates/paws-xylitol-its-dangerous-dogs

8 mos old is still on Royal Canine medium size puppy as recommended by vet. Very interested in how you change up their food. Glad to hear that because I would like to change him from chicken based to something else as adult. Had always been advised not to keep changing food as it was hard on their system. Breeder advised to use high protein and fat dog food (60% protein, 30% fat). What is your opinion on this? I am starting to add 1/2 tsp coconut oil daily to dog food for winter feeding. Advised it had ingredients similar to mother's milk. What say you about this?

I bought the Salmon A La Veg. My dog has never ate this before. Does anyone buy this? The store even had it on sale at $3.00 off a bag. The store where I buy from-a health food store does not carry the grain free or I would have bought it nor did it carry the Whitefish & Potato. The store has good prices and when there is a sale the food is an excellent buy, both kibble and canned. Jennifer

I did some research on all foods when I was about to get Otis and one of the ones I looked at was Candidae, and there are a lot of bad reviews out there regarding the effect the change in formula has had on their dogs. For a food that is that expensive, there should be no problems, except maybe the few that has food issues regardless of what food they try, there is always going to be a few of those poor pups. Either way, I choose to give/make mine their food, so they are on raw, grainless food with occasional, very occasional treat (because of Obedience training and all, don't want raw chicken or the like in my pocket…thank you very much). Sorry to hear about her obvious problem.
