New to the BRAT site, my little foster pup Teddy

Basenji Rescue

  • My foster is now officially up for adoption. Check him out.

He is a 9.5-10 month old R/W basenji; full of spunk and energy. Teddy is one of the happiest dogs you will ever meet. Nothing can get this boy down. He loves to play, loves people. One of his favorite things to do is play fetch  a basenji that fetches LMAO yup that is Teddy. He gets along with all dogs and cats too. I have two males in my house one altered and one intact and we have no problems at all with personality conflicts, he just takes everything in stride. :D

I know the naughty ….Here is my foster Dotty, eating stolen birdseed on my leather couch...

I know the naughty ….Here is my foster Dotty, eating stolen birdseed on my leather couch...

Oh I can beat that my husband forgot to push the office chair back in to the desk and we laid down to take a nap. So think of what happened next
*1 mischievous puppy gets into chair then climbs onto desk
*spies with his little eyes cup full of pens
*only takes ONE pen out of cup, hmmm I wonder which one he takes
*then proceeds to have a grand ole time with said pen

Does he look like he could have done anything wrong?? He's to cute right?

Wait…....why is the WHITE dog a touch of pinkish-red????

OMG He even looks proud of himself

    Extra pink feet

Oh and it gets better, because since they probably did this

My "show dog" looked like this for a month

The funniest thing though was I didn't find it at first. We are smokers, but don't smoke in the house and we were outside and the dogs were running around and Reggie walked up and I'm trying to figure out why his side is slightly pink, Tiggy came up to me and I freaked out because I saw something red on his leg and I looked closed and then go "oh god no" over and over and bolt in the house. And my DH is like  then I open the window right there where we were sitting so he could look in. Then he looked at the floor, looked at the basenjis and goes "oh $h!t". He was gracious enough to attempt to clean up the carpet. He got about 45% of it out.

Oh my, that is a funny story…jepp you beat my foster naughty..

  • Oh my, that is a good "Destruction" story. Those photos are good entries for the "Bad basenji" calendar someone was writing about the other day!

  • Great pictures yes they are "Bad Basenjis" calendar material. Looks like they had lots of fun.

  • I just saw (and fell in love with) him today! VERY cute little pup!

  • :D Basenjifan they look like two toddlers who have scribbled over everything.

  • He's darling! I hope someone snatches him up soon.

  • LOL, & I thought my 3 were naughty…..I'm a foster failure, I kept my two boy pups. Good work or all of you. I love his site.

    Till later,

  • OMG….!! What an extremely cute pup!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm sure he will find the perfect home very soon!

  • Got an email today re: a 5 year old R&W boy whose owner died.

Trevor is a super well behaved boy. He's out of Dasher x Dorothy Ann Collette's bitch. He lived with an 83 year old woman, Isabell. He's in Burlington, WI.
Well, Isabell died very unexpectedly, they think Saturday night. So poor Trevor is without a home. He likes other dogs, cats, and humans in all sizes and shapes. If there's someone on your waiting list that wants an older boy, please let me know and I'll send you the contact information. Feel free to share this email with anyone you think might know of a good home for him. Sal

Contact swournos at aol.com directly for info

  • I saw your post and I will mention it to someone I know that might be looking. I did attempt to email to request information directly but I think the email address is incorrect. I got a message saying this person is an unknown member

    Thanks
    Jason

  • Sally's address is swuornos@aol.com (her name was spelled incorrectly).

  • Thank for the correction. I was able to connect with Sally.

BTW, I also use the shunning method with my basenji. He gets into everything and so I have to baby proof my house. Sometimes I leave a drink on the table and he tries to drink out of it and when I catch him with it, I let him know I am mad! I growl at him and then turn my back to him and he gets very upset. When he does anything I do want him to do, all I have to do is growl at him and he comes over to me bows his head and curls up in my lap. I guess it is an instinctual reaction to submit to his pack leader. He hates it when I ignore him in any way. He is funny, because he will sit down and look at me and whine or try to jump up on the chair with me if he thinks I am mad at him. Sent from my ADR6350 using Tapatalk

The easier it is for "folks" to find BRAT rescue, the better imo. We have so many b's who need homes. Sigh.

As time passes, the routine requires change. Puppies need more attention and bigger space (and make more poo…). The adults runs will also need to be moved. They are ready for more space and will need more airflow now that we are moving into the summer months in FL (the original set-up provided them more protection from the wind during our unusually cold winter). Hopefully, I will be able to set up a schedule to allow help from those that have offered - so much has been last-minute due to constantly changing needs. It will be much easier to accommodate drop-in help when they are in a larger area. Margaret, Anne, B. Ann and Debbi have been doing a wonderful job of attending to many details of coordinating that I simply don't have time to do right now - home visits, vet reference checks and placements suggestions all lined up so that I can just say yea or nay. Thanks to their efforts and many other volunteers who are doing the home visits, we have placed 8 of the first 9 younger pups, 3 of the 5 five month old pups and one adult. JR has taken on Aisha, a b mom who has been going through culture shock in DC. We will be posting pups from the next litters shortly. Given that there are so many pups and so many homes that have been waiting for pups, the first batch was placed without posting to relieve demands on my time. Though the pups are remarkably well-balanced and similar (adopters have commented on how cuddly they are!), they do show personality differences. Placement decisions are still based on who fits each pup's needs. If you are interested in a pup and haven't already done so, please submit your application now by following the appropriate links at http://basenjirescue.org/ApplDB/AdoptForm.htm . You can express interest in a pup when they are posted, but early apps allow us to be better prepared by getting home visits done early. As always, I greatly appreciate everyone's support. Pam Hamilton FL District Coordinator Advisory Director Basenji Rescue and Transport A note from Debbi Johnson: If you are interested in adopting one of these basenjis, please submit an adoption application with BRAT. You will be added to an email list which gives notices of available basenjis. Before long, this group from Florida will be listed for adoption. BRAT strives to select the best home for each basenji we have in rescue. If you are interested in fostering, please stay tuned for another update coming to you soon. Each basenji that has left the group has gone home in a crate provided by BCOA. Thanks again to the members of BCOA! So far, basenjis from this group have traveled to new homes in Washington DC, VA, IN, AL, CA, and some have stayed in FL. Plans have been made for others to go to CT, NJ, KY, GA, LA, and NY. We appreciate your interest and support in the rescue of the Wimauma basenjis. Debbi Johnson BRAT Treasurer & Director Germantown, TN debbijbasenjirescue@comcast.net
