Two success stories

Basenji Rescue
  • Ajs Human, you brought tears to my eyes with the story of your grandmother..how sweet.
Yes, you are a rescuer through and through, you saved/rescued Aj and Melody from potentially being put down..great work, give yourself a pat, heck give yourself two pats on the back..
    Awesome story, thanks for sharing.

  • AJ's Human - your story is so heartwarming and brought tears to my eyes.
You are a blessed person to be so kind and caring. AJ knows it, too!

  • Lovely happy stories, we need more of these, thanks for sharing

  • Awww, bless you. Great stories and the best part was picturing your grandmother and Mel, obviously meant for one another, being "reunited".

  • 2 great stories with very happy endings!! I would say Gramma has the touch and spirit that Melody needed. And I would say you and AJ are best buddies! Thanks for posting this!

  • Great stories, two lucky dogs that have wonderful lives, thanks to you and your efforts. Great job! Tell your Grandmother"Hello" !

  • Thank you for caring lots of love in those two dogs and sounds like they found there forever home and love. Thank you for thinking about grandma. Way to go.

  • That is a wonderful story and obviously made two very happy (b and Grandma) they sound like they are soul mates. I have never heard of a basenji helping to feed anything before, they usually get there first!

  • I guess bird seed and fruit aren't Melody's cup of tea.:D But she keeps Gramma company when she's feeding her birds. That's helpful, isn't it?

She sounds so darling. Kudos to you for your rescue efforts! I agree, there doesn't need to be any official structure or heirarchy to make a different for THAT dog! I've privately adopted out two dogs from bad situations. Got them neutered and found wonderful families for them who continue to adore them.

Again, hope that you have contacted BRAT to take them for placement….. It would be great if you have had them tested for Fanconi with the DNA test.. that would help in getting them placed faster...

A friend of ours talked to the woman with the 7 month old female today. The original owner was older, got her from a shelter (as a Jack Russell) and she was just too much energy. The current 'foster' took her to help the original owner, but she has several other dogs, the basenji has already escaped once. She has chickens, etc., and her husband wants her re-homed soon. I saw a (poor quality) photo and she looks pure basenji but has one drop-tipped ear and barks occasionally, she is intact still. No one I know is up for a youngster like this, but we are asking around. If anyone out there is interested,I'll help with transport.

The cities that I knew that the breeders were located are Spiro, Stigler, and Keota OK. Lisa Akins is in Spiro. Sheila Maxwell is in Keota. I met someone at an auction that was from Stigler.

Its nice to be able to show rescue does try to reunite folks and their dogs. Most of us do try very, very hard to contact breeders, owners, anyone we can who can help us track down the former owners. Its sad that in some rescue areas, the breeders and rescue DON'T work together for the dogs. I am so very lucky. We have a great basenji breed club up in the PNW. They are smart, caring folks who only produce the dogs they are sure they have good homes for. I have only had one person in my area not take a dog back, or fail to offer to help with funds when rescue rehomes their dog. So, its a win/win for the basenjis in my area. Until we have no basenjis to rehome, I can only hope the rescue groups in other areas work to win the breeders over to helping the dogs. Course, some folks your not going to like, or be able to work with, but still, when we keep in mind its all for the dogs… Hope you all have a wonderful sun with your families and pets.
