  • I saw these three ads tonight on CL… the one in Orlando is a tri male; the two in Tampa are red/white (Male and female)

I have a pure blood basenji pup that needs a good home. Basenji's are very loyal and Jake has been a great friend. Unfortunately, due to the time I spend in school, he doesn't get the attention he deserves. He is just over a year old and is house and crate trained. He does very well with children and other dogs, but not cats. He has all of his shots and I have his parent's information from the AKC so all that is needed is his registration. He will come with a crate and food for a couple weeks. He needs a good family that will be able to give him the attention and love he deserves. I can be reached at 757-353-8538 if you are interested. Thank you for your time.

    Basenji's are a barkless dog.
This basenji is low key and aloof.
He does well with other animals of all types.
He is not super playful, but once he warms up he will play occasionally and tear up stuffed animals.
He is 10 but in very good shape, he would do well with a yard or enjoy a walk once a day.
He is a rescue dog, he was once an American/Can show dog champion.
I've had him for about 2 years now and I am unable to give him the love and care that he needs.
He sleeps a lot and just needs TLC.
If you are a dog lover and are looking for a low key, low detail dog he may be right for you.
He would do well with older retired individual as well.
    Serious inquiries only please :)

  • It's raining basenjis around here!

  • The second Tampa listing (Am/Can Ch) is for Sid, the dog being discussed on another thread so really only two new ones, which is two too many - interesting how young they are - the normal time folks tire of them. :O(

  • Good way to put it Linda…. "tire of them"!!! So sad that people consider their pets throw away when they no longer want to spend the time necessary.

  • Thank heavens for BRAT and responsible breeders.

  • A friend of ours talked to the woman with the 7 month old female today. The original owner was older, got her from a shelter (as a Jack Russell) and she was just too much energy. The current 'foster' took her to help the original owner, but she has several other dogs, the basenji has already escaped once. She has chickens, etc., and her husband wants her re-homed soon. I saw a (poor quality) photo and she looks pure basenji but has one drop-tipped ear and barks occasionally, she is intact still. No one I know is up for a youngster like this, but we are asking around. If anyone out there is interested,I'll help with transport.

We are in San Antonio and are looking for one or two Basenjis. We had our previous two Basenjis for 16 years. They were two girls and half sisters. What are their ages? Do they get along with indoor cats.

We rescued our current B from Medfly - just north of LA. Karen at Medfly was wonderful to work with and we love our little girl!

Again, hope that you have contacted BRAT to take them for placement….. It would be great if you have had them tested for Fanconi with the DNA test.. that would help in getting them placed faster...

He did look like he had short legs but I thought his body was long for a Rat Terrier. I am so used to them having a docked tail and much more white on the body. I thought he may be a poorly bred Basenji. Mansfield is not too far away from the Amish area. I wonder if he barks much! Jennifer

Tegs, Sorry that it took me a while to reply. I would love to trade pics with you. Everyday that passes, I am reminded of the Basenji Code. She is a bolter, I am happy that we have a storm door to help.
