  • my husband is a trucker too (regional) but his company doesn't allow any animals to ride with them. if they did my girl b would be truckn' right along with him.

  • GenJMar does your husband drive for co or O/O? One of the guys carried a snake crazy. I think the B in the truck would have been really cool and lots of fun.

  • Welcome AJ from the UK.

I know of two basenjis over here that ride the road with their basenjis and the dogs are so well socialised and never phased by any new experiences! It's ideal to be able to take your basenji to work with you!

  • Well, apparently the programming is smarter than I am. I'll have to play with it and figure it out, but I tried to resize the photo to JPG and came out with a BMP. Not quite sure how that happened. I'll keep trying.

    Thanks for the welcome, all.

    Cheers:)

  • Hmmm…Guess it worked anyway, in spite of me. Still don't know how to place it next to my name, though...some more playing with it?

  • He's so handsome!

To put it next to your name, go to the top of the page and click "User CP". Once you get to that page, on the left side under "User Control Panel" and "Settings & Options" you will see "Edit Avatar". Click that. On that page, click in the circle beside "Use Custom Avatar". You will have to resize the picture (80 by 80 pixels or 19.5 KB). If you are uploading it from your computer, use "Option 2" and browse for it. Use "Option 1" to get the image from another website. Good luck!

  • YAY!!! Thank you, crystalncody! Your boy is very handsome as well. Cheers!

What a handsome B you have! I hope you have him chipped. My young sport took off Tuesday but because of the chip I got him back safely. I stupidly had his collar off when he slipped out of an open gate.

  • Very handsome boy.

  • Aj is gorgeous..

  • He's not chipped, but he has a kennel tattoo on the inside of his leg. I've been told the chip wanders because the skin is loose. If none of you have that problem, I'll get him done too. I had my cat of Questionable Heritage done when she was a kitten. We had kind of an adventure today…I'll tell y'all about it tomorrow when I have more energy.

Thanks for the compliments. He is a good looking dog.

    Cheers

  • As promised, our "adventure" is posted in Stories.

    Cheers

@tanza said in Benji the Basenji: It is important to know the health of the pup and/or their sire/dam Well said ! It may not seem important now - you can say you will never show or need to register your Basenji - but in a few year's time you may find you wish you had known the health test results of the parents. By constant checking and careful breeding, many lines have obviated the most devastating scourges, but they are still around. Better to know for sure if your puppy is tested and imperative to make certain his or her parents were.

@krunzer: Keep them separate in their own crates. The older one may not want to put up with puppy play in a big crate. When crated mine are always separate unless they are at the kennel, then they are in the same pen because Becca is not fond of the kennel. PS, basenjis don't like being woken up much, and one dog annoying another who wants to stay asleep might result in a fracas in a confined space; never a good thing.

As mine age I try to keep a bit of weight on them because I know they may reach a stage when they just don't keep weight as the organs weaken.

@cmd: Our 12yr old Ramsey is from one of Linda's Basenji's and a very sweet guy. Have you tried Hacker's Basenji's? Ann is an active and very responsible breeder and she's near Danville. I can't say enough good things about her. We've had 2 of her dogs and both have had great temperaments. She's friends with a lot of other breeders in the area as well. If she doesn't have any available you could also try Select Basenji's near Dayton. I think she was co-breeding last year. We have a Select and she's a great little dog – a ball of energy though! I too was looking for a Basenji last year at this time. We lost our 14 yr old also year to date and felt a puppy would help everyone move on. Sort of became a mission. Puppies can be hard to come by this late, but we did find several. Nope, Tracy's breeding didn't take this year…but I think she is planning one for spring :)
