Welsh Kennel Club - good luck!

Basenji Showing
  • Good luck to all who are traveling to Wales for the Welsh Kennel Club show tomorrow.

Unfortunately i never get to go to it - am vice-chairman of a local canine society, and our open show is always on same day as Welsh. I am the only committee member under the age of 70 - only 5 of us ever turn up to shows - so i have to do all the heavy lifting lol.

This year i will have added fun because my cousin is getting married on the same day - so i have to collect committee who dont drive, take them to show, do all the set up, steward till lunchtime, then rush home for a quick shower -
throw on the kilt, and head to the wedding. I will be in dire need of a whisky by that time! meanwhile you lot will be sitting about chatting in the lovely welsh scenery, and taking the occasional trot around the showring. I know where i would rather be….

  • We aren't there this year, we are cutting back on the shows now. Results should be up soon.

It sounds like you need the luck Scott, I hope your day goes smoothly!

  • Just checked the results - Vals puppy bitch got CC & Best of Breed, and Rusty's puppy dog got dog CC. Dont think either of them are on Forum, but well done anyway.

Thats a third CC for both of them - but cant claim their title till they get another cc over the age of 12 months - anyone know if thats happened in Basenjis before?

  • I have just checked the results too! I'm not sure if thats happened before but as soon as they are out of junior they will be in open! Good news for some of the others though!

  • Another update, Rusty won MPD stakes and Jess was 3rd in MPB stakes, well done to both of them.

  • I'm not sure it has happened either, possibly a number of years ago. We had a buhund that won 4 cc's under 12 months and were dreading that she wouldn't get one over 12 months but thankfully she did at 14 months.

  • I see Val went 2nd in the group:D

  • Thats really good, she is still a minor puppy isn't she, update on Jess and Maya, she won the junior stakes! Well done Jess and Maya, I expect she will post later, with pics I hope!

    I think she is yes.

    Well done Maya & Jess:D

I see Millie won the champ stakes and Riley was reserve, certainly a good day for b's in the stakes classes:D

  • What a fab day for Val and Rusty. Well done to all!!

  • What a great day for basenjis!!

  • Hi All,

We had a lovely day, WKC is a favourite of mine! Congrats to Val & Rusty of course, they are both doing so well.

My little star has to go back on sunday to compete for a place in the Junior Stakes Finals! Its my birthday Sunday so fingers crossed!

I took tonnes of pictures of my mum handling Maya in the breed classes, and she got some video of me in the Stakes. I will sort them out and post tomorrow :)

  • Thats a great result Jess, I was so pleased for you. You are making this a habit going back, good luck for Sunday, we have everything crossed for you.

    Look forward to the pics!

  • Well done Jess, good job you don't live at the other end of the country. Good luck for Sunday:D

  • Well done Jess et all. Post the pics when you can.

    Scott

  • @Elscodobermann:

Thats a third CC for both of them - but cant claim their title till they get another cc over the age of 12 months - anyone know if thats happened in Basenjis before?

Ch St Erme Jolly Swagman did it; he won his title with his fourth CC at Crufts in 1987. A few years earlier I think Ch Azenda Wenohow was another.. May have been more, but before my time!

  • @Elscodobermann:

meanwhile you lot will be sitting about chatting in the lovely welsh scenery, and taking the occasional trot around the showring. I know where i would rather be….

There was some sitting about and chatting, but the scenery consisted of a large tent with patches of mud for an exercise area and the weather ranged from dull and cold, windy with frequent showers to brief hot and sunny intervals.

You really did not miss much!

  • Val & Rusty are certainly on a roll!

  • Congratulations Jess and Maya and good luck for Sunday. I hope you have a great Birthday.

Everyone's ideal chest is different. Here's what I consider a good chest. You will want depth, with the breastplate not too far back. The 'pigeon chest' that Pat was talking about is IMO the concave look that we are seeing more and more of. When you see this chest, you will usually see the front legs lining up closer and closer to each other. Here's a picture of Damisi's chest-which I consider to be a better chest these days. You will notice there is not much concave and the legs sit farther apart. You also want the upper arm to be of the same length as the lower leg. This is the bone that goes from the chest to the elbow and the elbow to the ankle. Robert Cole states "the foreleg…should be longer measured from an elbow to the ground than the body is deep." [image: SDC11407.jpg] [image: SDC11408.jpg] Also here's what I consider a good ear set. Yes, Sugar's ears are a little large, but with the ear set, it doesn't look bad. Damisi has much finer ears. Small and hooded. (Second set of pics.) [image: SDC11412.jpg] [image: SDC11417.jpg] [image: SDC11415.jpg] [image: SDC11419.jpg] Damisi has a very tiny head, so her ears look more in proportion in the pics, when they are actually quite small. Don't anyone else be afraid to pick my dogs apart, as I also like to hear the good and bad to see what I can improve when I am picking stud for breeding. It helps more than you can imagine.
