MAHA AKC Trial

  • This weekend was Piper's first AKC trial and boy did she make it memorable. There were I believe 12 basenjis total with 7 in open. On Saturday she won the open stake for a 5 point major! And then just to one up herself today she went BOB for another 5 point major and her final two runs today were in the middle of a down pour, but not even rain can stop her from chasing the bunny! More importantly we both had a blast, I only wish we could do this every weekend.

  • That's great, congrats

  • Congrats! Great start to her FC.

  • Congrats! What a nice way to begin! :)

  • Jarodkjv,

Are you going coursing with the Bluegrass Coursing Club in Columbia, KY this weekend?
Carrie, Liz and I have recently decided we're going.
We will have Miss Callie getting her JC, Lola and Riley in Open and Zip in Specials. I know for sure that Ottaray's the Trouble with Clair is going and she will be in Open (I think…).

Looking forward to it, let us know if we'll see you there!

  • No I can't make it, I don't think we're coursing again until the end of August unfortunately. But I hope you guys have a great time, I'm envious. Are you staying next week for the ASFA events as well?

  • No I will have a friend in town that weekend.
After this weekend the next event our 4 B's will course is July 4th-5th in Calhoun, I believe it's ASFA. And then the Specialty in Lexington for sure.

I know how that goes. It will take awhile for Rally to earn her VLCM. She is going pretty much going 8 points at a time. It took Rally and Nicky longer to earn their VFCh than their FCh titles because they are the only 2 vets running at most events. outlook add ins

I have a lunge whip, which we've played with ever since I got her. She loves it. I tried her at it on a small course back in July at our club picnic (here's the video, I've posted it before. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0gl6NAGvjow) and she took off like a crazy girl. That was her second time doing it that day. A few months before that she was a little unsure of what to do. So, it sounds like to practice her a number of times to get her highly focused on the lure. I'm guessing Sue might be going to Racine in August, but if you're there too Lisa, I'd appreciate any input on her "focus" if she gets to do some practice runs. Clay

I made a Photobucket album of this weekend. There are pictures of Beck & Lola & one picture of Beck's new puppy sister, Bon-Bon (her real name is pronounced Bonmee, but I don't know how to spell it) http://s228.photobucket.com/albums/ee290/carriesquires/ASFA%20Trial%20Winter%20Challenge/

But then I recommend that all be muzzled when running. I never used to.. but over the years of coursing have totally changed my mind. But not because dogs might be nasty… If you start out your dogs with a muzzle, they begin to associate the muzzle with coursing and know when that goes on they are going to "chase" the bunny. I would prefer that it was "required" for all hounds to run muzzled like it is for Oval/Straight line.
