Very sad story about Sasha in GA

Basenji Rescue

  • That's a heart breaker Vicki. Great of you to try and get her. I can't understand why the woman isn't out looking for her since she's responsible for her and the one that lost her.

  • What kind of rescue organization lets a dog "get away?!" Sounds fishy to me.

    How weird and so sad.
I sure hope Sasha finds her way to a nice home or rescue, where they actually care about her..
Thanks for trying to get her Vicki.

Exactly! Someone that does rescue I would think takes their responsibility serious. That's lame and she should be reported and never get a rescue if she's in fact just saying "well that happens".

  • @Vicki:

Agusta Animal Control called me and said BRAT picked up a Basenji last week, but they don't think it is Sasha. The missing dog from Sardis, GA, has "scars on her back legs." Do you think that explains why there was no picture on petfinder?

Did they say if the scars were quite noticeable? Was she abused? They could of taken a pic of her in the sit position if that was the case.
According to this it's run out of a home. http://www.petfinder.com/shelters/GA297.html. I'm wondering if they're overwhelmed with animals so the control is not as good as it should be?

Vick. I have been on crigslist in Georgia, in several towns around Sardis, looking at lost and found..I saw a few that might be something looking like a B (no pictures, just descriptions) I have emailed them, let's hope one of them is her.
Needless to say I will let you kow of what I hear.

  • @Vicki:

Thanks Bmama - Sasha has been missing for SIX WEEKS. I just called the foster home, again, and asked a couple more questions. I also left my name and phone number.

The woman said BRAT had contacted her about Sasha, too.

Maybe she's in a shelter in that area?

  • Makes me want to cry thinking of a shy little girl b out there on her own:( Poor pup…..

Basenjis are notorious escape artists. They can go over or under a fence in no time. They can bolt through a door, slip out of a collar, or chew through a leash in the blink of an eye. "Spooky" or undersocialized Basenjis who escape and find themselves in an unfamiliar place with unfamiliar people are extremely hard to get back. Even the most responsible person can have this happen.

I think the concern and upset here is that the woman wasn't looking for her.

  • If a shelter has had her for six weeks, what are the chances…..

No, that's unthinkable. I want to hope she was picked up by a caring human who is taking care of her:(:o

Thank you for trying, Ms. Vicki

  • Sad all the way around, but often these dogs do turn up, hope she doesn't end up where she started…

Robyn, THANK YOU for the update! Do you have any leads on the needed kennel? I have several friends near Atlanta that may be able to help out… another thought: do you think the Atlanta news station would carry the story? ;) I am so glad you are dedicated to these lovely dogs. Patty.

@vickilb: Wow, Vicki, I guess I like to pretend that stuff doesn't really happen.:confused: I wish she was found already and sleeping under the covers with her human…:o:o:o I will send good wishes her way. Still can't believe she got loose.... Sometimes the forum is like watching the news. We all here love our animals and the news is not always good and can be depressing especially when we can't do anything.:(

That is my motto for b's as well. ACD…often smarter than their owners...which gets them into such trouble. Wonderful dogs for the right owners. Hugs for helping this smart, busy breed.
