My brother's schnauzer

Off Topic

  • My brother's beloved schnauzer Buster had to be put down on Christmas Day.. can you imagine…. he was 7.5 yrs old and had recently been diagnosed with Diabetes.

I can't help but wonder.....was it really Fanconi? Schnauzers are one of the breeds afflicted with Fanconi. It makes me sad to think that maybe ol' Buster didn't have to die. :(

I sent my SIL info to pass on to her vet, and for her future knowledge -- they are schnauzer fans and I assume that any dog they get in the future will be a schnauzer.

wondering... wondering.... but will never know.

  • Rest in peace, Buster. I'm sorry for your family's loss.

  • So sorry…for your family's loss. It's sad when such young ones have to go. My brother's girl recently passed as well. Her name was Ginger, and blind for a year before her passing at 7 years old. I also wonder... She was rescued as a "lab/sharpai" mix though. But she was the most loyal, gorgeous and sweetest little doggy.

  • That's so sad…Run Free Buster.

You have to wonder how much Fanconi is misdiagnosed in other dogs. I have a friend with a little Chi that acquired Fanconi. A couple of us with b's suggested she look into it when her Chi was spilling sugar in her urine but didn't have any in her blood. Her vet didn't even want to listen to her about it, just wanted to run more tests. Luckily she took it upon herself to call Dr. Gonto and get a blood gas test done. Little Rosie was on the protocol for quite some time and is now off and doing fine.

  • So sorry for the loss, especially on Christmas - he'll be waiting for your brother on the other side - take heart.

They are adorable :) Watson always gets identified as some sort of terrier. He has been a rat terrier and a toy fox terrier…

Pass along my HI to Kevin... and tell him to give Therese a hug for me!!!!

So, I guess I couldn't have seen you in my recent trip throught the city of flying pigs (for those unaware, there is one). Two hours of stop and go southbound, trying to get to the airport. I was in the backseat and looked at every truck on the off chance there might be an AJ sighting. Obviously, no luck, as you were a few time zones away :) Had I seen AJ, I might have jumped out of the car I was in and jumped into your truck for a couple of miles…just to say 'Hi'...that's how slow going it was. My advise, for north or southbound, take the by-pass...but what do I know? There were plenty of trucks willing to wade through the traffic.

@Maya: If you're living in Holland, you need a Friesian!!! :D I have the most wonderful friesian, her temperment is amazing. She's not even 3 yet but she is just so sweet and gentle!! But, do keep us updated. I've had horses since i was 3 and they are a huge part of my life. I couldnt be without them even though im not as involved in the horse world as i once was!! P.S. I have some photos from a show over here in the UK with shires in their traditional plaits and tack if anyone is interested in seeing them. Its just amazing!! Yes!! I love to see the pictures!!! I like the Friesian horses but it's not a breed wich can used for lots of things, they are to special i think :D I like the Friesian for shows and as a barouche horse (is it a good word?) I once ride a Friesian and it's different with riding a normal or western horse. They make larger steps and it's very comfortable riding! A friend of us breeds the Friesian :D @moetmum: That sounds exciting, hope it all goes to plan. Our neighbouring farmer used to breed shire horses, they don't breed now but still have loads of horses. They go to loads of shows, they were sponsored by a local brewery. The horses are fascinated by the basenjis, and always want to come and have a look! the b's aren't keen when they snort at them though. I have never heard of a horse milking farm before!! Wow!!! If it was a little bit near Holland, I really would come over to met you and take a look at the shires next door :D:D We're don't going to live in Holland :D In Germany they have also some very nice breeds Hannoveraan, holsteiner (i don't know the english names…0

That's so funny! I actually laughed out loud in some parts because it reminds me so much of my own cats! Thanks for sharing!
