Basenji Showing
  • Yesterday evening I received a call from the breeder : our puppy is on his way !!
They did an echography as well as a bloodtest which were both affirmative: 4 puppy's are in the making. :D
    30 more days to go:).

    I'll keep you all informed.

    SPANNEND!!!! :D

You should start a thread, so we can all follow the news with date of birth.. pics.. and pics.. and euh.. pics :D :D

  • Huge congrats!!!

  • :D Sure, Janneke, I'll start a thread as soon as I get some news.
As for the name of our boy: the breeder asked us, with respect to the breed, to choose an African/Egyptian (official) name for our pup, beginning with an "H". We've chosen "Hanubis Du Vieux Bry" aka "Bendji" as his call name.
Hanubis referring to Anubis, the Greek name for a jackal-headed god associated with mummification and the afterlife in Egyptian mythology, and Bendji, the name of a hamlet in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Hope you guys like it too
    To be continued…

  • @Janneke:

We had a show today and Mirtillo did wonderful. It was his first time in this class (youth: 9-18 months) and he became first with an 'excellent'. He also got his first point (out of three) for his Dutch youth championship. And he was second best male with a reserve CAC.. but because male nr 1 is a Dutch Champion already, it counts for a CAC. So he also has his first point (out of four) for his Dutch Championship! :D

I think, the best male was beautiful :D

The youth boys both did great!

Congrats on the win Beck! It is always cool for a puppy to win big their first time out.. but Peeps shoulda kicked her butt! I think that Becky is well aware of testing and what is involved. Her Jolly was a performance star and his life was cut short to Fanconi Syndrome. She knows all too well how Fanconi can suck the life out of a basenji. The test was a godsend, and those of us that have lived it, will use the test in and out, backwards and forwards… as it is too serious of an issue to breed against it with wishful or unrealistic thinking. But, there is always a good side to things.... as we type, Benny, Jolly, Data, and Nate.... some true great ones... are all running free, stalking bunnies... and having their girls....

My favorite kind of pooch is a happy, tired, snuggly one, so yes. That and one who is up for a game of tag (when I am not pooped)

@Janneke: Let's hope it gets better… I blame myself for giving him some chewing bones.. I believe it might have made it worse. (didn't noticed before giving the bones) He's not getting them anymore for a while... We already noticed the diffirent opinions of judges. Some said: "overbite.." Like Mirtillo should never have been in the ring.. other where like: "ooh.. an overbite.. if that's all" I would say for sure that the chewing bones did NOT have any effect.. at all on that…. typically you would not notice it that much until they loose the baby teeth and start to get the adult ones and the head starts to take shape.

@Janneke: I finally have his judge report. I tried to translate it to proper English.. but please correct me if I'm wrong.. Young breed representative of four months. Square construction. Elegant expression. Beautiful topline and outline. Splendid head with beautiful wrinkle formation. Small dark eye. Beautiful straight legs, bit stronger angulation on the hindquarter. Already beautiful forechest. Very well condition with supple skin. Moves gracefully and light-footedly. Already excellent show qualities. Beautiful presentation. I love how your shows have written critiques. This is not done at AKC dog shows so you never really know what the judge thinks about your dog unless they happen to make a comment.
