@Motala - That is good that you talked to Jan and glad to hear that she had not been spayed. I still think that your Vet and you should connect with Dr. Gonto about your girl's blood work and blood gas results and if he has any thoughts about it.

Hi guys! I'm Tom and a proud Basenji owner. I had two four year old Basenji's, a r/w male (Ali) and a brindle female (Zuzu). I now only have the male as my female passed on on March 10th. Still greiving…
I am, however, getting a b/w female puppy (Aja) very shortly. I put a deposit on her this weekend and will be picking her up in a couple of weeks!
Live in upstate NY and glad to meet everyone!!That is great, who are you getting your pup from?

Hello and welcome!

Wow!!! You guys are GREAT! It's funny, I just stumbled upon this forum the other day and I wish I had YEARS ago. Zuzu had immune mediated anemia. It really came on very suddenly (the symptoms did anyway). It was awful, she go so sick so quickly. I took her to a specialist, did multiple transfusions…...she didn't make it. Zuzu was a special girl. VERY sweet, very affectionate.....always by my side. I can't tell you how devistated I was.
Anyway, so I decided to get another companion for Ali (my four year old male) and had been looking online and I also registered with BRAT (Ali is through BRAT). I found a breeder in Oneonta who had one B/W female left (which is exactly what I wanted) and put a deposit on her. I'm doing some remodeling at home and I'm not QUITE ready for her. SO......that's the story! -
I am so sorry to hear about Zuzu. I know of at least 3 basenjis that have had problems with immune mediated hemolytic anemia.
Congratulations on your new puppy! I love black and whites, have two of my own.

Welcome to the forum. I'm really sorry about Zuzu's illness and death.
You know….a basenji puppy could really help you with the remodeling work. What a big help she would be!

Ha ha, yeah, I'll bet! It's bad enough trying to paint and all with Ali around!
