Maya's First Ringcraft Tomorrow..

Basenji Talk

  • Well, Maya is all vaccinated now and ready to face the world :p

So… She is off to her first ringcraft class tomorrow I dont know if you guys call it "ringcraft" in other countries  But anyway, its classes to get her ready for the show ring :D

she went along last week to watch and LOVED it. And more to the point, everyone loved her. We have a lot of hounds at our classes (mostly beagles and a couple of those sausage dog things :D ) so they were very interested to hear all about her, and her breeding and they had a cuddle with her (after they were well and truely soaked in virkon! they must have been keen lol) and stuff. Maya is such a laid back baby, she just quite happily goes from person to person for cuddles!

So, wish us luck for tomorrow. We're very good on the table. I was fortunate that the breeders spent time getting her used to standing and being handled on the table so that takes a lot of stress of my mind :) But she can be annoying on the lead, she walks well most of the time, but right behind me rather than next to me  Which is irritating, but she's getting the hang of it!

I shall drag my mum along and try and get her to take some pictures/videos if possible! I always love having pics of "puppies first ringcraft" :D

I had nose surgery a few months ago and when I got home I was worried the dogs would be so excited and jump all on me, but it was crazy how mild mannered and dare I say tame/domesticated they were. I swear they knew I was hurt and gave me a day or so of good behavior. They are truly great dogs to own!

@tanza: Just an FYI, most of us start letting our pups lure practice even as young as 10 to 12 wks…. granted it is just a short straight away, but gives them some sense of the game. And usually by 7 to 8 months most all B pups can do a full course. Pat, thanks very much for that info. I trust your comments. I know Kipawa would love luring. There is a club that does luring that is about a 40 minute drive from where we are. They don't have any events planned yet - not even 'fun days'. I will keep an eye on their website. http://www.meetup.com/Tri-Cities-Dog-Coursing-AgilityTraining/

What great news - she is obviously settling well. Although Basenjis have often been house trained before leaving the breeder they do sometimes regress in a new home and I'm sure you'll find Malaika very clean.

I have to agree with Andrea, it scared the crap out of us too. Mick is not a vocal boy but when he does Baroo I wish he would do it again. It's so sweet.

Jayden is super gross when it comes to what he'll eat: poop, vomit, and, if he pees on the patio, he'll lick that. Honest!!! We feed him and we feed him very well! Yucccchhhhh! Pat
