  • Great photos, what a pup party. Thanks for sharing!

  • Wow! Did they all get along so good right away? That is one thing I wish Tosca would be able to do…
    Fun pictures!

well , caesar , cairo and savannah :D have known each other for several months, they were a huge help with savannah when she was first rescued . she absolutely adores them. With bodhi , there was a few minutes of growling (mostly by him) after that they were buds

  • It was a pleasure meeting Betsey and John - and Ceasar, Cairo, Savannah and Bodhi. It was so cool to see the puppy. He's so soft and squishy - lucky me to hold a puppy when I'm missing my family in Michigan. Ceasar and Cairo snuggled happily for a long time with me - like they must have known I really needed a Basenji fix. It was very calming to be able to give them pets, hugs and kisses. Helping my parents this visit has been somewhat stressful - not like spending time on the beach with a margarita. But I am loving the upper 70 temps here vs. the 20's in Michigan.

John - your pics turned out better than mine - thanks for posting them. I was amazed at how wonderful all four of these furbabies got along. It is obvious they are nurtured well. They all made me feel so welcome - that was great. Betsey - thanks again for inviting me over. :)

  • HOW FUN :D :D…they do look like they enjoyed themselves! I love Forum Reunions :D :D :D

  • Wow! This forum is so great. How nice to have met folks and see others meeting! Thanks, Admin!

  • That is so cool!!!! It's so nice to put a face to the personality…..kudo's to you both! Florida sounds real good about now....enough winter already!!!!

  • I got home Thursday morning (yesterday) after 9 days - walked in the door around 1:00 am. Duke & Daisy were locked in my son's bedroom until I got coat and shoes off, then I sat on the sofa so I wouldn't get knocked down when they came out. Then they came out to see "what's up" - they did circles around the kitchen - didn't see me on the sofa until I spoke lightly "hey there". Then OMG they went wild on me. It was so funny the noises that Duke was making - and all the wet kisses! It was fun. I missed them I think as much as they missed me. :)

  • aww they love their mommy :D how sweeeeet!!

  • Ha! I just looked at the pics. Jill is in the white shirt, I am in the striped shirt. Savanah has the pink collar, Caesar has the red collar. Cairo is the blue collar and is brothers with Bodhi the pup!

They all get along splendidly. Savanah and Cairo are like glue when they are around each other. Caesar keeps Cairo under control and Savanah has a secret crush on Caesar. Cairo and Savanah just picked on Bodhi all day. Typical right?

John has so graciously offered to house sit with all 4 so I can go out of town. He will be taking over my place aka basenji central!

Hi @Vesna, it’s interesting you say that about the spay. Our tri-color actually just got spayed this week and her coat shed before that. I noticed small amount of black hair growing in where she shed, hopefully it grows back. What phase is your tri-color at? Did this just happen?

Ah ok cool thanks, I had something like that when Safi was smaller and it was the most successful for sure. She outgrew it quite quickly though

I can't listen to that, it would wake my girl up and well... I'm not into a "sing along" just now. ;) I will say that many canines howl and yodel and bay (at the moon, whenever a fire truck passes, etc.). I'm not certain that any one breed is distinctive enough to have a sound all their own, but many a proud owner would probably assert so.

The Tampa Humane Society became a "no kill" shelter a couple of years ago, so all strays, etc now go to Animal Control. I have been called by the Humane Society (gave them my name and number before BRAT existed) to pull several basenjis, one turned out to be a really cute mix, over the last 6 years, but for them rescue is a last resort, they prefer to adopt dogs out themselves. In the past, Animal Control has called rescue groups for all purebreed dogs, but even so, I don't doubt that basenjis have fallen through the cracks, or were deemed unadoptable (bite history, aggression, injured). But this quote is from a Hillsborough County Animal Control person about the St. Pete SPCA, who also does work with rescue. Again, it could be true, but we are talking about 3 different facilities, St. Pete SPCA, Tampa Humane Society, and Animal Control, all of whom euthanized till recently.
