    A couple of weeks ago, I took Senji with me up to my brother's house for the weekend. As soon as he got there, he rolled around in a pile of my brother's clothes that were laying on the floor of the laundry room. He kept going back to the pile of clothes and even took a nap in them. Later, we were all in the living room, and Senji laid down on my brother's shoes like he was using them for a pillow. He also followed my brother around everywhere he went. (He and his wife were the previous owners) The next day, Senji went into his walk in closet and rolled around in a bunch of his clothes again. He didn't go anywhere near my SIL's clothes nor the kid's clothes. Last week, my brother went in for a colonoscopy. They found a malignant tumor. We were all spooked by Senji's behavior that day. It's like he KNEW!
    The only things Senji usually rolls in is my wet towel after I wash my hair or the pillow, right after I wake up in the morning. So this was NOT typical behavior for him.

    Yea, I believe Senji knew about the tumor, there are reports that dogs can smell a tumor. I have seen medical programs where they have trained dogs to smell around a person laying on a table and the dog will go to the area where the tumor is located, so yea I believe your B knew. They are amazing animals and is why we love them so much.

    First of all, I will keep your brother in my thoughts for a full recovery.
    I believe dogs can have a sense of these things. I once saw a program regarding dogs sniffing moles with band-aids over them (the Docs knowing which were the cancerous ones) on people laying on a table (as described by Y&T) and the dog only went to the cancerous moles, not the non-cancerous ones. I believe they are training dogs with bladder cancer as well. I think it is great!

    I have read articles as well about dogs "sniffing" out cancer- or nosing or biting their owners' cancerous moles. Hopefully Miles doesn't roll all over my hubby's pillow for the same reason though… I'm hoping he just likes the smell...

    Last year, I had what turned out to be a malignant melanoma(carcinoma in situ) on my right side. That was the side that Senji always "leaned" on when I'd sit on the couch with him.
    Thanks everyone for your thoughts and prayers for my brother. He'll be having his surgery next week.

    As for Senji knowing, I think he did too! There's more than one reason we call them "man's best friend!!!"

    On feeding, when I had multiple dogs I always did the same as Zande, all dogs fed at the same time, although not always the same place. When the weather was nice I sometimes fed outside. But wherever, I sat and supervised until everyone was finished. I had one who would try to poach if not watched, but she knew better than to make a move with me sitting there. Never had a serious fight with any of mine, and never a disagreement over food, but a breeder I know had to permanently separate two bitches who hated each other and would fight instantly if they had the opportunity....the cause of their dislike had nothing to do with food and everything to do with one bitch interfering with the other one's pups.

    @BDawg: Ours will drink wine and beer. Lexi HATES the smell of a banana. When I peel it, sometimes we let her smell it and then runs all over the house. It's so funny and sometimes we chase her with it (good naturedly) and she goes nuts and spins on the bed all playfully. She will roll in anything mint flavored or scented. She also loves to roll in leather and will stick her face in ANY stinky shoe and go bizurk. In wild animal studies they are researching if this is an innate behavior to mask personal scents or to repel external parasites. (Pandas, not only in our United States, but in China breeding facilities, many times choose to anoint with scents that are not found in their natural habitat.) I wonder then, are our dogs also self anointers as a throw back to their wild heritage, or are they just plain strange? Does anyone else have dogs with scent preferences (other than the nasty dead/decayed stuff they find on a regular basis) My Kate is a 'nasty' scent anointer, Tyler will rub on apple scents.

    Cory and Jayden loathe wet grass….especially Jayden. Cory will at least get off the patio long enough to pee. Jayden uses the patio. And he thinks the flower bed next to the patio with its nice dry pine straw is his personal potty! That is where I have to do most of my pooper-scooping. Pat

    Thanks for the info! Yes we just got over the rain for the most part,,,,,,,thank goodness! What part of Maryland are you from? My aunt lives in Cumberland and the last time we were there we went to Rahobath beach (not sure of the spelling). We had a great time except for the DC traffic – we here in Southeastern Ohio are NOT use to that type of traffic! It was funny once my cousin (from Cumberland) came in town for a visit and we were going down one of our main drags on a Sat. morning and I said "Man,,I cant believe this traffic,,,,,its awful!" and she laughed and said I didnt know what traffic was! Well ,,,,,,,,,she was right,,,,,,,I couldnt imagine dealing with the DC traffic every day. About the furbabies though,,,,,,,they seem to be getting familiar with each other. Only a few minor scuffles today over a rawhide I forgot to get out of the backyard . Also, the marking has seemed to end-- we were a little worried. Lastly, the eating in there crates thing has worked out except our Bella (1st BRAT dog) has been dealing with some seperation issues again after we left her for the weekend to drive to Missouri to get Wrigley. Anyway, hopefully we will be one big happy family! One last thing, kudos to you and your wife for fostering so many dogs. My husband and I are considering volunteering for BRAT after this spring. My son is a senior and I am afraid as we get closer to the spring things will get crazy around here with all of his senior stuff.

    oh yes and last night I was actually furless on the bed. Of course had to push Belle off the bed about 10times but at least she got the message before 12.00am and went to her bed. But at 6 they came up…Hey baby steps...

    @Barklessdog: They are like babies Sometimes you just have to tough it out and let them cry [image: dish.jpg] Cute pic! But ftr, most people don't let babies cry it out anymore :) That method has pretty much been debunked as the best way to "train" them….they need to find a way to calm themselves, not exhaust themselves! Sometimes it IS best to let a puppy cry and whine...but if it is hysterical screaming, letting it go on will not fix the problem.
