Back From the Luxury Hotel

Basenji Talk
  • Alex and I returned from our vacation. Chance got the luxury of staying in a really fancy hotel in San Francisco. He had a luxury suite with a leather couch and a TV. We were able to watch him 24/7 on his webcam which was installed in his room. He had special walks and massages daily.
Ok, Ok…I know...sounds very strange but we don't have children and Chance is like our little baby. We wanted the very best for him while we were out of the country.
Well...even though he was in a very good place he was your typical basenji. Destroyed his bed and would screem all night long. Argh! He would only eat if someone would sit in his room with him. He scuffed his little nose so it is pink on the tip. Today he has slept all day long. I can't believe how tired he is. Man he must of not slept much while we were gone. He was quite happy to see us though. :D
He lost a little weight from not eating but he is eating all his meals today.
As for me...We are bonding while catching up on much needed rest from jet-lag

  • Ohhhh … I think I want to stay at that Doggie hotel! What was the name of it?

Where did you go on your trip? I bet Chance really missed you guys!

  • So, just to go back to your other post…. did this throwing up start since you have been home from Vacation? And if so, how long has it been?.... this just could all be stress related with you being away and him being in the Kennel... did they say anything about him throwing up?....

  • wow, that was pretty hard for him I am sure. he is young right? I think any seperation is always hard at first.

  • The name of the hotel that Chance stayed at is Wags Hotel. They have 2 locations in California. One in Sacramento and a brand new one in San Francisco. It is amazing. They really make your pet not want to leave. With a swimming pool to help dogs with arthritis and play pens with Astroturf where your dog can romp around with others. They have a few rooms to choose from and they do NOT look like a kennel. No wire cages! They use plexy glass in the front of the cage and cement sides. No smell of dog in the facility whatsoever. They have huge air purifiers in the rooms to eliminate that. I was really impressed when I viewed the facility.
You can check out the website:

They even have a cat area where the cat kennels are surrounding a HUGE fish tank where they can watch the fish all day to keep em busy.

We have two kids and the dogs are still our little babies! Shhhh, dont tell them.

we hire a dog sitter when we go out of town who comes by and lets them out & feeds them. She comes three times a day. We let out dogs have run of 3/4 of the first floor and have never caused any damage. They always act the worse when we are home.

  • I hired a house sitter and they MUST stay the night….

We have done that as well. Lately my boyfriend's parents have been keeping them at their house and they must be aloud to sleep in the bed with them. It is a requirement. They don't mind and Dash and Sissy love to go to "grandma's". I like having people stay at the house too. I like having someone to keep an eye on the apartment as well as the dogs. That way their schedule stays the same.

I am not sure if we have luxury hotels for dogs here?? I will bet your dogs had a blast!

  • I work with a lady that is our company's resident house sitter…gggg... and she works for a reasonable price, she will not take any money... all dogs and cats love her... she brings her own bedding, towels, food, other then the mail on your counter when you get home you would never know she was there...gggg
Are we spoiled or what?... of course she is in high demand so you need to get your "reservations" in early!

Wow! Pat–is there any possibility she would come to Hayward to do housesitting?? Of course I would want to pay a more than reasonable fee....

  • don't know…. but forget even trying to offer her something....gggg she will not take it.....

And I suppose she would, she loves Basenjis....

  • WOW…sounds nice. Jack, even with ALL that Luxury, would still cry ALL night long I'm sure...lol

Reviving an old thread to add an interesting tidbit (hey, if the spammers can do it, I can too…!). I'm finally getting around to reading Jill Wylie's Call-of-the-Marsh, which I have checked out from the library. It's about a British woman living in Rhodesia (Zimbabwe) in the late 1950s/1960s, and she has a Basenji. Attending her first dog show, she writes: Call behaved well considering that for the entire two days of the Show he had none of his precious freedom. He held himself nicely in the ring, and won the Open and Rhodesian Breed but his Challenge Certificate was withheld because he bit the judge. Well, she asked to see his bite and he took her at her word. I watched Basenjis being judged at Crufts Dog Show in England when I was over there, and all five of them bit the judge. Perhaps it's a sign of good breeding. (p. 31) I'm finding a lot of LOL moments in this memoir. Some cute illustrations, too.

That bothered me too, but I guess since the BBs didn't bother him he must have been a pretty resilient little b.

I am glad to hear that his UTI is gone. It might be good for dogs to be left for a few days and then come and pick them up, just like it is good for kids. It teaches young kids that mom, dad or whomever has not 'dumped" you, they will come back. I wonder if dogs would see that connection? Good news that he howled, I have yet to hear Otis, although he does have his own language going on when I vacuum clean.LOL.

Cambria is located on the coast of California. It is north of Los Angeles and South of San Jose. Cities along the coast seem to be much more dog friendly. It's beautiful along the coast. Santa Barbara, Monterey, Carmel and Cambria are very dog friendly places to visit and very beautiful.
