Has anyone travelled w/ your B on United Airlines to San Jose?

Basenji Talk
  • Has anyone travelled with your basenji (as checked-in baggage) on United Airlines to San Jose Airport (SJC) in California?

If so, pls. share your experiences… Thx...

  • I have, with no problems. I only fly United or Alaska/Horizon Airlines with my pets. I flew from Baltimore to San Jose. Never had a problem and they always took good care of my pups. Have any specific questions?

I have never used San Jose, only San Francisco and for airlines only American and Delta.. Years ago Delta offered "Delta Dash" that was counter to counter service… of course I was such a wreck that after flying a couple of my B's as baggage... I will not do it any more....
But that said, I am told that American, Delta and Continental are some of the best airlines to fly...

  • I have flown from Oregon to San Jose and had a 8 week old pup in my lap the whole way. No problems except for him having gas which really stunk :)
I had my sharpa bag under the seat but kept him in my lap covered by my jacket and a towel to hide him.

  • i havent flown to where your talking but my caira had a litter of pups and i shipped them from michigan to pa, md, and co. the only problem i had was with the weather but the airline wont take a dog unless a certain degree. but at far as getting there when it was warm enough it was fine.

  • Thanks all, for the responses!!!

You might reach out to BRAT and ask if they have any foster's in your area that would dog-sit for you. They seem to have Basenji foster parents in every city, so they are experienced with Basenji's and would be able to adapt to short stays. Offer a "donation" of sorts and make it very clear that you are not surrendering your little lady. (worth a shot)

I have seen the people who have dogs in the large crates weighed at check in. Only because it was a large carrier. Honestly I would carry her because it gives the appearance that they are lighter then they appear.
