Anyone Else's B Make Noise When They Yawn?

Basenji Talk
  • Yup Bella does that, too! It's so adorable…:D

  • Magnum does it, too. Such a cute little noise at the end.

Yawning is [supposedly] contagious. I know I yawn (or at least want to) when seeing other humans yawn, but I don't seem to be compelled to so when I see an animal yawn. What is your experience?

  • Eli does it all the time and then theremis Kitkat that hardly ever does. Eli does it the most when he is tired and fist thing in the morning. I think it is so cute.

  • Shaye also sort of squeaks when she yawns - I think it's something most of them do. Yesterday she sort of muttered when on a long ride, because she didn't want to stay in the back seat - cute low sound. Whenever we have to put her in the crate because we are going off, she screams and it's the most dreadful sound - she also still pees and poops in the crate - I'm really hoping she can get used to it, as even though we try, we cannot be here 24/7…..

    Anyone else have that problem?

  • My previous beasties didnt' but Gossy does the yawning squeak all the time. She also has a little "bark" that she does when I scold her. Her kennel name (table Talk) was well chosen.

  • Indy has learned to make the sound of a hissing goose when he yawns. He thinks its funny!

  • Katie does a yawn-morph. Whenever she wants someone to go out with her, she starts with the yawn and morphs it into the 'owe' sound. Sometimes when she snaps it off quickly it sounds eerily close to the word out.

I'd love to hear the audio of the hissing goose sound rnasto. I can't begin to imagine that coming from a B. It would scare the crap out of me:D.
(I had a couple of mad hissing goose experiences when I was younger–a friend had them as watch dogs on their horse farm)

  • I'll see if I can catch him in the act for ya

  • My little 13 week old is so vocal I almost forget she is a 'barkless dog'! She baroos constantly, makes the strange noise when she yawns (which as many of you have said we just melt when we hear it) and even barks at other dogs when walking her! She is the complete opposite of my 4 year old B who makes next to no noise at all. It is something to get use to.

  • Ripley does this as well! I was so excited the first time he did it. It's the cutest thing ever :) He's started to make noise more often now, and I'm really excited. I hope he is vocal when he gets older, I love their noises!

You can find a lot of puppy collars at thrift shops for pretty cheap - would never pay full price for one. I'm getting mine at 14 weeks and was told that 8-12 inches was what was being used - then at 4- 6 months graduate to 10-14 inch collar.

I wish they could go everywhere with me but I couldn't imagine trying to get them on a plane. We are going to lake Erie in a couple week for a long weekend and they are coming with us. This campground is very dog friendly, this is the campground's annual halloween party before shutting down for the winter. Everyone is asking us to bring our dogs and of course they will be dressed up in costumes. After that we are taking a week to go to Cancun. Dog's can't go but will staying with a friend that has 1 acre fenced and her 3 dogs and mine were practically raised together. So we call it a sleepover. Everyone plays until exhaused so not a lot of time to get into trouble. I will miss them while I'm gone but know they are in great hands with my friend.

Does he know sit or down? If not, should teach him… and then when your daughter comes out of her room, she should immediately have him sit.. (would help at first if she has treats for him)... then she can reward him for doing a behavior that is acceptable... I was thinking the same thing. This is how I got caesar to stop jumping up on people at the door when he would try to greet them.
