@jordandwilly - Thanks for clearing that up.... 9-5 is just fine, IMO.... I work and have always had to leave mine when I was at work, never an issue. That said, we were able to set up the house that access to the backyard (with 10 to 12' privacy fences) with a doggy door and a dog room in the house for them, Locks on the gates so there is NO access for anyone. Dogs sleep 90% of the day so being at work doesn't bother them... never have mine even when I had a litter in the house (And have been in the breed as owner/breeder for 35+ years). You can hire a dog walker to take them out mid day..which is a good solution. and give them a mid day meal depending on their age. I do not and never have used free feeding, period. Especially if you have more that one... you never know what/who is eating what. And you can set up camera's on line to watch them from "afar".... LOL. Keep in mind people that many of us need to work and have day jobs. The most important thing is the time you need to spend with them when you are home. Example would be, if you have young children and you work... when you get home you are going to spend your time with your human children... NO dog would be happy if left out... they need their time also because they are a family member and need as much time as a human child. Again in my opinion
Now I know why there is a basenji-forum

So I was driving around in my new resident city and see this doggie play-day care center plus another doggie exercise pool business next to it. Wow something for Mica and I to have fun with. So we proceeded to walk into this doggie day care center and see what WAS their business. Whoa! You mean you don't know what a basenji(mix) is? You mean you don't know about basenjis? What about those bigger than usual 4-peds? My Mica would love to come and play with those 4-legged critters, too. You mean you don't want to answer my questions?
But; those half-door dog gates at your office doors you said I could leave Mica at while you show me a tour of this doggie play place won't hold Mica back if she wants to jump. Oh. We are so sorry, jumpers not wanted; sorry. (umph) (Basenjis not wanted here.)
We don't dog sit jumpers.(My Mica certainly raised up a racket as we walked out the doors and looked at the menagerie of smaller 4-peds echoing their little barks above the dinge of Mica through the wooden slated fence. She doggidly expressed herself at all of them coming at her through a fence until I pulled her away from the half-pints!).:D
(The doggie exercise pool never congealed into an exploration event.)
I think I have a real dog.
Micas mom -
How insulting, they have no idea what terrific, full of life dogs they are missing out on.
-
How Rude of them! they dont know a real dog when they see one. I hate calling B's dogs theye are more than just dogs
-
My Basenjis are smarter than most doggie-day care managers.:D
-
Definately not the place you want Mica to visit anyway. Evidently they're not very good at what they do, manage dogs.
-
The nerve of some people. They must loose a lot of business with that attitude. I am lucky, Hollie's day care people LOVE to see her come in and she never has a bad report at the end of the day. If our day care didn't take jumpers, they'd be missing out on some business (one Springer Spaniel greeted me by jumping a counter to say HI!). To further secure things they use an 8 foot fence outside, and never leave the dogs unattended. Here's hoping you can Mica find someplace that really understands all dogs, including basenjis.

I still haven't found one so don't fear it's pretty common our Bs are SPECIAL and only the special know of them lol
-
So this is my song I sing to Mica because she makes me feel so happy sometimes.
You must have been a beeootiful puppy,
With beauuutiful brown eyes and a curly tail…(that's all I have for her right now...)

BEAUTIFUL BROWN EYES!!!! yes that's a line from my song too. Funny we are all the same, crazy for our B's.
-
Special dogs, special people….....that's just the way it is!
-
Did the first name of this doggie business start with DUHHHHH? Just asking!
-
Their loss!!! They have no clue what they are missing. There's nothing like a basenji. And there is no way to describe the feeling you get from a basenji.
-
I second that. Everywhere I go, Champ is loved even though he nipps I am not allowed to visit my nieces without their furry couisn.
-
How rude and sad…some people just don't want to be educated about things...it does take a special person be cause these beautiful creatures are special...I know my Jojo is...

THe place we kennel our dogs (also go to day camp every other Friday) love our Basenjis. They beg us to bring them back and someone there has asked us every time we have been there about when we were getting our new pupy since we called and asked how old they had to be to start going.
That place is missing out big time.
