I called the local vet emergency room and there girl wasn't sure if onions were toxic and I am positive they are.
He got into a bag of Fajita vegtables (after getting out of his seat belt while I was in Wal-Mart buying him and Zahra peanut butter for their Kongs).
Should I make him throw up by giving him Hydrogen Peroxide like the vet said or do you think he didn't eat enough to make him sick?!

If you are worried then give him the H Peroxide…. but I would bet it was not enough to really hurt him.... If it was a bag of veggies, then I doubt that there was enough onions to really do anything...
The mother in me thinks that if the bag of veggies wasn't all onion, he'd probably be OK. If he ate a whole onion, then of course have him bring it up. Did Chase eat some of the other veggies too? It's hard to know without seeing the mix if he maybe ate too much onion. I would certainly keep an eye on him. Does anyone know what toxins are in onions and what it will do to dogs? Hopefully, the only reaction might be gas. Good luck - let us know how he's doing.
I gave him the Hydrogen Peroxide like the vet told me to and he did throw up. I feel so bad about this, I know I should have just ran dinner and the dogs home first and then ran out for dishwasher detergent and peanut butter.
He threw up a lot of onions, green peppers and red peppers. The meal was enough for 2-3 people.
I just gave him a little more Hyd Peroxide because I am reading the Dr Spock book for dogs here and it recomended more than I originally gave him. Chase is wandering around the kitchen starring at me like "what did I do"?
I am trying not to overreact and run to the emergency vet if he is vomitting and still acting alright. He actually was just sniffing and begging for food a few minutes ago.
I am trying not to feel like a crappy dog mom for not preventing this from happening.
Poor Zahra is curled up in her cage being so good because she has no idea why Mom is freaking out.
You are a very good dog mom and nurse. You did what you felt was necessary. Sorry you had to go thru all this. The most unexpected things just happen. Yuck tho - raw onions & peppers. Chase must have been hungry!
No, he is a piglet in a Puggle suit I think he would eat us out of house and home if he could.
Zahra doesn't seem to care too much about food, could be because Chase steals hers!
He is laying here on a blanket on the kitchen floor, I am about to take him out and walk him for a little to see if that helps. I don't think that I will be getting much sleep tonight. It is hard to tell if he is lethargic because they played really hard tonight before we came home, they were at Doggie Day care and then ran around a friends backyard playing with the neighbors dogs through the fence. I guess I should keep him up and moving. Do you guys think?
No - I would let him get some rest. He thru the stuff up, so why worry? Usually when one upchucks, don't you just feel bad? 
It takes alot out of ya - plus as you mentioned all the hard playing today . . .
I know that when I have had to get mine to "throw up"… using the HP method.. they do get lethargic after... I am sure he is fine and just needs a good night sleep.... I would just let him relax....
I am so thankful that I could stress out about this with the forum, my husband is deployed still and everything has been fine until this week when stuff has started to break, Chase has ingested onions, you know how it goes!
I have never really had a dog before these two and don't know if I am overreacting or doing the right thing. I feel like I am being fairly calm, no crying from me, etc.
I don't think I am in the mood for fajitias anymore though …
You did the right thing… when in doubt... make them puke, ggg!!! Hugs!!!!
He's probably gonna be okay, and I don't mean to scare you, but keep a watchful eye on him for next few days for vomiting and diarrhea. If he exhibitis either of those two symptoms, get him to a vet. From what I've read, gastroenteritis and hemolytic anemia is a danger for dogs ingesting a goodly amount of onions.
I actually ended up calling Animal Poison control and spoke with a vet, she agreed that I had done the right thing with inducing vomitting and she did the calculation on how much onion he may have taken in vs his weight, I guess the danger area for a 28 Lbs dog is about 3/4 of a cup. Since she said that it sounds like he threw up most of it (She said normally when they throw up you only get about 80%) he will probably be okay but if I wanted to take that extra step to take him to the emergency room in the next few hours and have them give him Charcoal. Apparently when a dog ingest onions it isn't something that affects them immediatly, it breaks down the red blood cells and can actually take days to cause problems.
The charcoal has to be administered within the first few hours but I really feel that I got most of it out of him so I didn't take him and the Vet at the poison control center agreed.
So, we are getting ready to go to Banfield this morning to be checked out by our vet just to be on the safe side.
In case no one knows about the Animal Poison Control Center the number is 888-426-4435, they charge you a $55 fee but it was worth it to me to talk to a vet right away, not drive to go to an emergency vet and sit there for hours.

We are back from the vet and just waking from a long nap. The vet tested his blood cell count and some other test with his blood. He did have some slight damage to some of his blood cells and the red blood cells were already re-forming. She doesn't feel that anything serious will come out of this since he was treated early.
I called the Super Supper place where I had picked up my dinner (or maybe I should say Chase's dinner) from and they said that there may have been about 1/2 cup of onions in the mixture.
