Critters that call me grandma

Off Topic
  • One son and wife have Mona, an enormous rottweiller who sometimes knocks me over in her eagerness to say hi to grandma. They also have Toad, a black lab puppy and Rufus, a fat cat who was rescued from a neighbor's roof. My son in California has Pete, a parrot, who likes to sit on his shoulder while he's working at the computer and says Change the channel, dork, to which my son replies Dude, this is a computer not a television. He also says Turn the light out buddy. They are currently working on saying Hi Grandma, so any day now I expect to get a very strange phone call….

@JENGOSMonkey I WAS THERE FOR '89! I was a kid, but I remember the water coming out of the swimming pool in huge waves and everything falling from the shelves! I was actually born in San Jose, but moved around a lot later LOL I hear the wildfires are more of a concern for you guys now? That's scarier than quakes for me...

I cannot imagine committing to buy a puppy without seeing the animal and if possible the sire and dam. OTOH, a rescue (or adoption of an older dog) is a different thing. My last two Basenjis came to me sight unseen, and turned out to be wonderful dogs, but the breeders I got them from wanted to place their dogs in an experienced Basenji home, and I only paid the cost of getting the dogs to me. One came by air, one was personally transported to me by his breeder. If she hadn't been happy with what she found I expect she would have taken him back with her when she left. I also had to commit to return him if ever I couldn't keep him. Good breeders care about where their dogs end up.
