@dres_actually - Also that looks to be about the spot that a micro chip is placed? My Franie has a lump there but it doesn't bother her.... might be something for your vet to explore.
is this an emergency? Lump on the neck became gangrenous?

Hi,
my dog had a soft lump on the neck last week, last time I saw him. He stays with my father most of the time becouse of my work. Today he calls me saying “it got worse” and sent me this pics. Luckily he also had the brilliant idea to call the vet that prescribed amoxicillin. 2 mg I think, that as of now has been administered just once. Is it enough? It looks very bad to me. Should I do something else?
Thanks for your help

Ya that would bother me a lot. I’d want that looked at by someone who actually knows what they’re looking at. I don’t know what would cause that. Kinda looks like a spider bite, but that’s a wild guess.

In a word, yes, this is really not the place to ask this... Vet is the best to see this. Was there a bite that you know of? Personally I would think that a personal vet visit and not just to issue amoxicillin without seeing the pup? Not sure I would says gangrenous but for sure infected.. but I am NOT a Vet.

I agree, Vet ASAP. The red ring surrounding the wound looks like an indication that there is an infection. The wound itself does not look like it is healing. I cannot see that Amoxicillin (alone) is going to heal this.
Please keep us updated. We tend to worry and wonder about what happens. Our thoughts are with you.

I am at a loss to understand why you let it get this far and didn't consult a vet already. We are not vets - and this needs attention - yes. Urgently.

@elbrant said in is this an emergency? Lump on the neck became gangrenous?:

@fjd89 I agree with @elbrant and the other two Basenji experts who chimed in... please let us know how this turns out. I'm curious to know if the vet can determine what caused that.

Please take your Basenji to the vet - that wound needs to be addressed ASAP.

@zande He said he only saw it now, that the dog lives with his father most of the time. It isn't like he has watched it develop and waited. But online isn't the next step.

@debradownsouth hopefully it has been to the vet by now
