You need to give more descriptive information like age, height, weight, any white on her feet, etc. for people to try to make a better guess. Looking at the photos I would say not Basenji. She looks more like a shepherd mix, especially with the thick tail.

Hi Michael, welcome to the forum! Your Oscar reminds me of my Joker, who is supposed to be a rat terrier, but my vet suspected he had some basenji in him. I loved your video, and you seem to be the type of person filled with positive reinforcement. Whether Oscar has basenji or terrier in him, I think it's important to give high praises when he does his business outside, to include loving scratches behind the ears, lol. On the other hand, if you come home and there's been an accident, I wouldn't "rub his nose in it", but I would carry him over to the spot and gently scold him, "Oh Oscar, what did you do?" And then I'd promptly take him outside and when he potties, high praises again.

Think of Oscar as a 4 year old child… while they don't necessarily understand the words, they understand when you are happy or sad. He is in good hands with you, and with time, he will behave better inside... but I agree with others that it would be good to get him neutered.

I'll chime in on the full vet work up and the seizure diary too. Our first Basenji had seizures his entire life - his first was at 6 weeks old. He lived to be 16 years old and was never on medication for the seizures. In fact, our vet told us, "The meds are actually more for the owner than the dog. They don't truly 'stop' the seizures. But the owner feels better." And the side effects of most of the commonly prescribed anti seizure meds can be pretty bad, especially if the dog is on them for a long time.

We got our girl in January this year and loved her and the breed so much we got her a boy companion 2 months later, and love them both unconditionally. We did research on the breed from many websites and had committed to buying her but were a little nervous cuz of the stories we read about them being little loony hounds. But, they work for us.
