Anyone know this breeder… in NY?

Basenji Health Issues & Questions
  • @bkc134 I also know this thread is 5+ years old, however if someone researches her name along with the breed and this comes up, I think they should know what they're getting themselves into.

  • Far as I can tell from her website, nothing has changed much.
She has only one dog of her own that has been shown (two others received show points through their original kennels).
Checking the pedegrees of her dogs, and keeping in mind that her dogs are limited registration, there isn't much out there.

  • @wizard Except now she's refusing refunds for litters that aren't born.

Update from previous post: I tried writing on her Facebook wall about getting my deposit back which was promptly removed and I was then blocked. So basically scammed out of 250$ and a dog.

  • I was going to give you a link to this thread, then saw you found it. Obviously nothing has improved with her.

  • Just an update...
Lisa has been known to leave her dogs for weeks at a time with little attention, love, or even a decent amount of food.

The kennel in Hagaman no longer has any dogs (or Savannahs) in it - the last one, Sizzle, having been sold supposedly. Of course, this was not until after leaving the poor dog alone (without kennel mates even) for months. Yes, she had shelter. Yes, she had rainwater. Neighbors would throw carrots over the fence, and even buy dog food to make sure she was being fed.

Lisa is irresponsible at best, but the whole situation with the non-refundable deposits and so on is minor in comparison to the neglect. DAYS without food. WEEKS without attention, and when they did get it, it was only for her to come and talk 'baby talk' for 5 minutes while she gave some food, and then walked away.

These dogs were NEVER walked or played with unless it was time to take one to a show. It was heartbreaking to hear Sizzle howling from loneliness (and maybe even hunger)... and it was getting to a point where neighbors from the whole village were questioning what was happening. At least one person filed reports with the authorities, and unfortunately since she was doing enough to make it appear as though the dog was not in distress, nothing was done.

I'm happy to hear that sweet Sizzle has been homed and is getting the love and attention she deserves.

But keep your eyes peeled for a new business, potentially new name, and definitely a new location - and please, for the love of animals everywhere - report anything suspicious.

  • @bkc134 You need to file a complaint with the better business bureau and you can also file theft by deception.

  • @DebraDownSouth I did file with the BBB but got a letter in the mail saying they weren't able to do anything because there was no response on her part, which to me makes no sense. I did contact multiple breeders and anything that was linked to her online as well to alert others of the scam. I had no idea she mistreated her animals otherwise I wouldn't have sought her out. Originally, I found her through the BOAC website so I thought she was a verified breeder, however she's since been removed. When I further looked her up I didn't find anything suspicious.
I am happy to say, however, that I did get a puppy from Veronica Predale who's almost nine months old. https://www.instagram.com/bandit.the.basenji/ A very cheerful baby boy who makes my family and I just as delighted. 😊

  • Not familiar with Veronica Predale? What is your pups pedigree? Many of us are related by our Basenjis common parents.

  • @tanza http://veronicaapredale.wixsite.com/darkmoonbasenjis She's in Bangr PA. Very nice and even tried to help with the whole Lisa situation. I'm beyond happy with my pup.

  • Thanks, know the kennel name, just forgot her name....

@GriffinsMom, my girl Lady had a suspected brain tumour when she had a seizure at 13 years of age. My vet put her on Prednisone, and things improved. She was on and off the drug for the next few years until she really started to get worse at just short of 16 years old. My vet said that for some, Prednisone seems to shrink the tumour. Of course, it would depend on size and location. I don't want to give false hope, but you might inquire about it.

I always do the full panel. The issue is that a partial, you still only have partial. And if you suspect issues, you end up running them anyway. Of course it helps that a full panel here is not that much more than a partial (I think it was a bit under 60 or 140 for full). LOL though I did full on Sayblee because she WOULDN'T eat and full on Arwen because she gets almost nothing to eat in order to keep weight down. Both were fine.

@eoy: Just as an update, I've been in contact with Marjukka and hopefully I'll be getting a tri girl this winter. I was also at my first basenji show today, and Klassic's Daydream Believer (Faruk) came first, not only in his group but overall (sorry I don't know the correct terms). I hope to be able to post some pictures here in some months :) Good for you! Can't wait to see puppy pics in a couple of months!! And Faruk is a really nice male!

@BasenjiByTheBay: Thank you all for the help translating this info. Yes, I think we will register her with the project and have her tested. My impression was that there had been no testing. The woman we got her from had never heard of Fanconi and I haven't found anything on the breeder- except now on Sally's site, where he just seems to have Fiji's Sire and Dam. This forum is so incredible! So sad the people out there that don't know about the health concerns in a breed and just sell for profit… but you can learn about them at www.basenjihealth.org or www.basenji.org Chances of you finding anything out about the breeder would be slim, I would think…..

@ChaseandZahrasmom: I am so glad that you said that Pat I was a little worried when my vet, whom I have a lot of trust in was the one who had no idea what Fanconi was. I am definelty going to take this information to them tonight when I pick Zahra up, she is there for a teeth cleaning right now. Do you think she is too young to be tested? She is 1 Year 9 months. She is not too young to be tested, but like Lisa said, unless you get the sample in by December 20th, you will have to wait till after February as they are going to concentrate on the Direct linkage test. And there is no reason that you can't wait at this point.. the linkage test was mainly for breeders this past breeding season. For you, I would say wait till after Bebruary and see if we get the direct test…. But you should at age two strip test until you do get the DNA test done In order to do the DNA test you need to register/add your B to the CPP data base and print out the form for the test that tells your Vet how much blood and how/where to send. All that information is at www.basenjihealth.org
