Hello all!

  • I just joined the group. I adopted a 12 week old Basenji a few weeks ago and am very quickly falling in love with my little boy Pharaoh.

    HE is awesome!

  • Ohh congrats on your new B! We would love to see pics of him. There is a tonne of good information on this site. Good luck to the challenges a little B brings to your home!

  • Hi! You got the brother to my puppies, Willow and Kai! I've been watching to see if you joined. Nancy Craigie did such an awesome Job with these puppies - she said this is her litter with the most amazing temperaments.

I'll be looking forward to seeing pics of Pharoah (formerly known as Neo) - I have lots of pics of him when he was tiny, since she would send me pics of the whole litter. I can send some to you, if you'd like.

By the way, how much does he weigh? Kai is a beefy 15.0 pounds, Willow is 12.2 (as of Tuesday).

    Nice "meeting" you -

    Julie

  • Thanks Krunzer! Maybe I am crazy (must be to own a B) but I find his intelligence, stubbornness, charm and all the quirky things about Basenji's. He is also a cuddly sweetie pie. Would love to post some pics…where do I do that?

  • OMG!! I am so excited to meet you Julie! Pharaoh is also 15 pounds. Bummer that you live in TX - it would be fun to get them together. PLEASE send me pics!! My email is mlb3838@hotmail.com

I think Pharaoh is incredible! So smart, so sweet - everything I have ever wanted in a pup. How are Willow & Kai doing?

  • Ohhh we got B's from the same litter who we can watch grow up together! This is exciting news. I am glad you two found each other, you can ask each other questions about your growing little B's. It's nice to know how littermates are doing.

  • Welcome to the forum and great that you have a brother to Amelie's puppies. What a small world!

Thank you for adopting this beauty. She looks so much like my first basenji.

My heart breaks reading your wonderful story of Dinah - it is so clear she is a huge part of your heart -you will have such wonderful memories of her when it is her time to give up the pain. I also do not believe dogs don't have souls - of course they do - the unconditional love they give, the way they try to help when you are emotionally suffering, the joy they get when they see you coming after a separation - all these and more are proof they are very soulful. A loving companion dog is God's gift. All our hearts are with you, and our tears flow with yours. God bless.

I look forward to your pictures. I'm a technophobe too - I keep telling myself I can do it but so far haven't posted any. One of my bitches was spoiled for the show ring by such a judge who didn't know how to approach a hound (although he was a Saluki judge and should have!). She was experienced at showing as well but was traumatised because when she backed away at his front on, silly voice approach she nearly fell from the table! Of course she blamed the fall on his approach. I worked on her intensively but to no avail. Yes, Basenjis on the whole are friendly and they never forget a friend either!

Welcome and kudos to you for helping with rescues! It sounds like Kowboy was a great introuction to the breed. I'm sorry for your loss of him and Indy. this is a great place to share and keep memories alive. I'll keep my fingers crossed for a speedy relocation back to your family in CA!

I live near the mountains in Colorado. There are some great trails with open space all around to let thme run around. Gosh I'm so jealous!! We don't have any plasce we could let our pooches loose. I would love a big open space sans any basenji prey :) that way they'll come back
