Am so very sorry, Alex. My tri boy Mr.T will be 12 in December. We lost our last 2 b's at ages 17 (Jenna went in her sleep), but Zak I had to have PTS as he had dementia really bad. Its never easy loosing these furkids. Kiya will live forever in your heart and memories, never to be forgotten. She is running with the wind and sunning herself in the warmth of the sun. Until you all meet again, someday. HUGS

Sherwood's Timeswept Promises
"Pippin"
Dec 20, 1997 - Feb 23, 2012Those of you who have been "in" Basenjis long enough may remember my "Brady Bunch" litter. There were 6 puppies, 3 males and 3 females, and I called them Greg, Peter, Bobby, Marcia, Jan, and Cindy. I documented their growth every week on my website in my first edition of The Puppy Chronicles. Jan was my keeper. I had one heck of a time coming up with a permanent name for her though. I tried out many but I kept calling her "the little pipsqueak". That evolved into Pippin. I used the theme "Time" for the litter and I chose Timeswept Promises because it sounded like a romance novel. Greg went to live with Lisa Voss (lvoss here on the forum) and went on to become lotsoftitles Sherwood's In The Nick Of Time lotsofmoretitles, call name Nicky. I am very proud of Lisa and her accomplishments with Nicky. She did a great job raising him and getting him out there for competition. I showed Pippin and she was halfway towards her AKC championship, including both majors, when I went through a divorce and could no longer afford to show dogs. She never earned her championship but she proved to be an exceptional dam and gave me three litters of puppies. Her grand-daughter Bindi and several of her great-grandchildren still live with me. Pippin will live on.
Pippin was a funny puppy. She had an affinity towards plastic and chewed on the plastic doghouses all the time. (Pippin's nickname was "Termite".) She eventually had them so chewed up that the tops wouldn't stay on very well. I still have those doghouses in my yard today, still decorated with Pippin's handiwork.
Pippin was always healthy until she reached her senior years. She had issues with her heart and lungs and took a small dose of Prednisone daily. She managed well until a few months ago. Her liver was enlarged and it was starting to make her feel bad. Her breathing steadily became more labored and she told me she was ready to go. My best friend Steph accompanied me to the vet clinic where she was euthanized. It was a peaceful passing and I know that she is pain-free now. She is buried in Steph's yard with her older brother Logan, older sister Luna, and cat friend Sherman. It's not quite the same around here now, for me anyway. The animals have already adjusted to her absence. Life goes on.

So sorry for your loss…
They do leave such a hole in our hearts when they go

I'm so very sorry for your loss, Robyn. She sounds like a special girl and you describe her beautifully. I hope you will also be able to adjust to her not being around any more and I hope the pain of her loss will ease in time.
-
She has joined the others that have crossed before her. I am sure they will make her welcome. Run free sweet Pippin

Very sorry for your loss. I have always enjoyed reading about Pippin on the B forum. Our hearts and thoughts are with you.

Oh Robyn. I am so sorry. Our fur babies are such special parts of our lives. They do for us so much more than we ever do for them.
Your Pippin will always be close to you in your heart. And in time you will find smiles when you look out and see the chewed plastic dog houses. She made sure she left her mark, never to be forgotten. She probably has a new plastic dog house she is working on right now, and will one day show you more of her special handiwork.

So sorry to hear of your loss. It seems there have been too many on the forum lately. So many wonderful Basenji souls leaving at one time. It touches all of those who love them…..

It's so sad to read this but in truth, your post is such a tribute and celebration of her life that I smile to think of how special a mark she left on you. It sounds like a great legacy she left behind in the pups she had and I am honored to get insight into what a special dog she was. I wish you the best in healing

I am so sorry to hear of Pippin's passing. Nicky, her brother is sitting next me wondering why I am hugging him so fiercely and dripping on him. He has never really liked getting wet.
